How hard is it to remove the bottom ring on a 6-ply Ludwig concert tom?

Is it glued on or just riveted?

Would it be easier to just cut the shell off?

Thanks...

I may have pulled them off with pliers. after tweaking a bit.

the rivet 'holes' don't go all the way 'thru' as you can tell from the inside..they are just set in

^^^Which means filling the holes might be the next desired step, so unless re-wrapping I'd say cut them off instead.  Was there a bearing edge under the ring, JDA, or was the shell flat on the end?

What size?  I have a 16" that I'd like to turn into a concert floor tom.  Not sure if it's possible to get it off without destroying it?

What are you all talking about?

I had a set of Ludwig concert toms, and have seen a fair amount of others....there was no metal ring on the bottom....Slingerlands DID have a metal trim ring, but not Ludwigs....

So..... the rivets drilled out very easily. Most of the divest came out of the shell, of which I will fill.

The rivets are close enough to the bearing edge which is also present already, the holes will be covered by the head collar.

There was no glue and the rings fell right off once all of the rivets were removed....

Thanks for playing....

Wow, I'd never noticed those trim rings before....my concert toms were from the mid '70's and had no rings, nor did my buddy's Octa plus....they were still 3-ply then, with re-enforcing rings....

Sorry my post was confusing...I meant that I have a 16" shell that I'd like to make a concert tom out of but would need the metal bottom so it would match my others....I sent ya a pm, if you or anyone else might have a metal ring off a 16" let me know.
