Went off to see Allison Kraus/ Willie Nelson tonite. The drums looked interesting. Then realized it was Jay Bellarose and his Rolling Bombers. It was a master class in groove and subtleness. Pure Bellarose. Two sticks in one hand, shaker in the other, tambourine on the hihat. Just groovin' like a mofo. When it called for it, he'd let something go that made nondrummers in the crowd gasp. The entire band was awesome. Really played as a unit, dynamic and just what was needed. One of the best shows I've seen. Great to finally see Jay in person....Attached File  IMG_1908.jpg   184.59KB   1 downloads

Awesome!  Jay's one of my all-time favorites.  Was that in SLO, crash?

When I hear her voice I am convinced it is what an angel would sound like if singing.  To me a very high voice often is difficult to understand.  With her every word is clear as a bell. I could listen to her sing all day.

Totally agree. Her band is fantastic! One of my favorites along with Edie Brickell.

And Willie was fun. Just Willie. Loose, funky, with way more songs then he could play in a night. We can only hope that at 84 we could still put in a night like that! Had Kris Kristofferson as a guest. People we sat next to were friends of his. He just bought a home in Morro Bay.
It was my birthday bash. No longer get to sing “when I’m sixty four”. I’m there!

Jay is a wonderful drummer.  He plays exactly what every song needs and nothing more.  He's a really cool guy, too.

Great venue!  Caught the Jason Bonham Zeppelin thing there last year.

I'm jealous! I haven't really studied Jay, but he's definitely one of the few drummers that are easily recognizable by his unique style, musicality and groove. I'd love to hear and see him live -- and especially with Allison!

I'll have to see if they're heading my way.. of course with my luck, they've already been here. Jay is a wonderful player and a great guy. Used to live in Boston many years ago. I haven't crossed his path in way too long.
