I've seen so many nice drums from all of you out there, I decided I was going to create my definitive TOP TEN list of drum sets I would enjoy owning. That means I will include ones that I DO own that I can't see letting go of, and ones I've had before that I wish I still did, and ones that I'd like to own in the future. Mine are in no particular order.

  • Slingerland Nashville Studio Kings (currently own)
  • Slingerland Niles 3ply with clear or tan interior (current project)
  • Premier Signia maple (used to have)
  • Premier Genista birch (used to have)
  • Rogers Tower Delta - Cleveland era (used to have)
  • Ludwig Legacy (not yet, but I will one day)
  • Ludwig Epic X-Over Striped
  • Ludwig 1970s 3ply with clear maple interior
  • Gretsch Renown Maple
  • Tama Starclassic Performer birch/bubinga

So, if you could own ten and only ten sets, what would your top ten be?

Well some people do have that problem around here. I only have one playable kit at the moment, but that's down from three a couple of weeks ago...

Oi, I already own two of my "top ten" kits. I don't know if I need that many... I'd be happy(real happy) with a new DW 13/16/18/24, traditional sizes, in "Lava Oyster" finish. So here's my top 3 - sorry, I'm breakin' rules here:

- Ludwig 14/16/18/26, 3-ply clear interior
- Ludwig KB Champagne 13/16/22
- DW Lava Oyster 13/16/18/24

My current Fullerton Rogers are doing a pretty good job until I can swing the DW's. I'm really pretty content as-is

Bookends for me would be:

1 and 2. 70's Gretsch and 60's Ludwig, since they give a kind of sonic framework with their different sounds/natures etc. (OWN: GRETSCH 24/12/13/18; LUDWIG 13,16,20)

The rest on the bucket list:

3. Chanute Camcos, Purple Moire (22, 13, 16)

4. George Way, Aristocats comme ca: http://www.camcodrum...aysetsbdpmr.htm

5. Rogers Big R Tobacco Sunburst with full zoot Memrilock hardware (22,13,16)

6. Rogers Script badge kit (24" kick the rest negotiable)

7. 60's Sonors (20,12,14)

8. Asba copper shell kit just like this one: http://www.andyyouel...s/yannroyer.htm

9. Leedy-Ludwig kit tricked out like Levon Helm's old wood rim kit.

10. Slingerland Radio Kings 24/13/16/18

Only ten? No room for a nice set of Premiers with one of their rich pearl wraps or a Meazzi Hollywood Crystalines, another 1/2 dozen Ludwig kits, or even the other drums I have on hand....oh well, back to dreaming.

When my feet are held to the fire, I don't find any bop dimension kits on my wishlist. I could also be very happy many contemporary kits from all over the world. But this is the toppermost.

cheers,

Patrick

Have & love:
- DW Collector's kit: 22, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16
- 1974 Slingerland 3-ply: 22, 12, 13, 16

Would love to have:
-Slingerland Nashville Studio King: still regretting the one I missed on Ebay in 2001 - 22, 10, 12, 14, 16
-Craviotto maple or cherry kit: bop sizes or a rock monster? Either would be spectacular.
-DW Jazz Series kit: 20, 10, 12, 14, 16
- Ayotte wood hoop kit

I already own my top ten, starting with my DW BR kit, two vintage Slingerland kits and two custom made kits. Those are everything I could possibly want, leaving noting to lust after. Lucky me.

I already have a few of my "bucket list" drum sets.

>1963 Leedy Shelly Manne set 20-13-16-matching Shelly Manne snare Black Diamond Pearl

>1963 Rogers Holiday set 20-12-16-matching Luxor snare Champagne Sparkle

>1956 Slingerland Gene Krupa set 22-13-16-matching Krupa snare Blue Glass Glitter

>1965 Walberg & Auge set 20-12-16-W&A 1967 Snare--Bass and toms are Salmon Satin Flame--Snare is Champagne Sparkle

Others that I would like to have are drum sets from my past. They include:

>Mid 50's Gretsch set in Cameo Coral and Charcoal Grey Duco--Sizes are negotiable.

>1961 Rogers Holiday set Black Diamond 20-12-16-matching Holiday snare. Snare drum on a Swivo mount on the bass drum.

>Mid 60's Slingerland set Sparkling Black Pearl (like Anniversary) 20-12-14-matching snare.

>Oaklawn Camco set Blue Sparkle 22--two 12's--14x14--16x16--matching snare

Let's round out the top ten list with these:

>60's Premier set in that root beer brown swirl wrap that Ringo had before he went over to the dark side. I would like this set in 18-12-14-matching snare.

>Late 50's--mid 60's SlingerLeedy set White Marine Pearl 20--12--14--Matching piccolo snare.

Notice the absence of a certain brand of drums that I graciously leave to everyone who likes them. The one Gretsch set is in the list because it was my first real drum set. Also notice that I have a love for the mid 50's--mid 60's period drums. This is what I consider to be the golden age of drums.

Same here. The G word does not excite me in the least. I do have a Catalina Club Jazz kit, but I don't consider them worth of any top ten list (although they are pretty decent drums), nor do I consider them real Gretsch. Probably made in the same factory Ludwig, Tama, et al uses for their low end kits. Never got into the G sound. Never wll.

I was thinking more along the line of Celebrity drumsets:

That being the case:
(1) Joe Morello's kit used in the Time Out Sessions
(2) Gene Krupa's kit used at the 1938 Carnegie Hall concert
Any kit owned by:
(3) Baby Dodds
(4) Chcik Webb
(5) Dave Tough
(6) Ray Bauduc
(7) Sonny Payne
(8) Frankie Dunlop
(9) Papa Jo Jones
(10) Panama Francis
