I should list the stock photo on eBay for sale and then direct ship from Walmart.com to the winner.  I can pocket the difference minus fees and never touch the merchandise or pay shipping!

Let me clarify what I meant about manipulative.  I absolutely love the people I serve with and their hearts and desires are absolutely in the right place.  I don't believe there is some overt mass conspiracy to manipulate the masses by utilizing dynamics but what I do believe is happening is more out of ignorance.  When we use dynamics they feel good.  The build of the drums and instruments into some sort of musical climax is awesome.  I am afraid that the emotional response we feel from these dynamic builds is being mistaken as the Spirit moving within the congregation and people look to that as their spiritual barometer (I had an emotional response = I must be doing what God wants of me or else I wouldn't have felt it).  So maybe manipulative is the wrong word, maybe a false sense of spirituality would have been a better way to describe it.

Either way, I love serving in the church and we can do more good for people working together than separately.

Back to the OP - I completely understand what you are saying but I would encourage sticking it out for a few months and trying to introduce your ideas and see where it goes.  Good luck!

I have been spending a lot of time learning this music because my job as a college chaplain requires it.  I have to say-- the drumming is so dumb for a lot of the popular stuff that the kids know, but the lyrics are even dumber.

I've been drumming in my church for close to 20 years now.  I started when I was in middle school at the front end of the "worship wars" in the conservative church to replace the traditional hymns with contemporary christian music.  Over those 20 years I have noticed the same thing you are talking about.  The newer, popular worship music seems almost formless at times and all about dynamics.  I just go along with it but I generally hate it.  Whether they know it or not it feels very manipulative to work the congregation, like you said, into a "fever pitch" to elicit an emotional response that somehow makes you believe the spirit is moving when in all reality is could just be your emotions moving you. (Not diving into religion, just making an observation)
