I am a retired naval officer who had a highly successful second career as a computer consultant. After retiring from that I decided to spend my final days as a jazz musician.
I seem to sometimes drop what I am doing and pick it up years later. For example, I started playing drums in 1964 and quit in 1967 when I joined the navy. I took them up again in 2004 as a hobby. Same thing with writing reviews. I dropped out in 2004, but recently started writing them again. My previous focus was technical and business books and related products. These days I review music, some books (mostly related to music or musicians), videos, musical instruments and even kitchen products. The joys of retirement, right?
My muse and guiding light is Karen I. Karr who continues to look over me.

Swing and jazz, mainly from the 1930s through 60s.
I am a sucker for brushes and find myself compelled to purchase every new model that comes on the market.
In addition to music I love reading and videos.
Reading: I have a passion for history, biographies, historical fiction and humor. I also love great american writers of this century, including Gore Vidal, Ernest Hemmingway, John Steinbeck, and F. Scott Fitzgerald to name a few.
Videos: Bollywood, Italian, Arabic and French language videos are a passion, but I also love sets comprised of BBC and PBS (and History Channel) series, chick flicks, and historical fiction. Some favorites are Woody Allen (which means also Julie Delpy), John Sayles, Audrey Tautou, Daniel Auteuil, Roberto Benigni, Hiam Abbass, Deepa Mehta, and more.
