Gotta love Dave Grohl. He upped the solo project approach with awesome guitar riffs, incredible playing and great production. Jump to 8:22 to get to the meat of things.

Yep Dave is the real deal. So much talent. That composition was tight and right! Thanks for posting.

Dave is great! I appreciate that he does it all!

.....that said.....that "Play": WAY too much repetition. I appreciate that he is changing things with subtleties, and that there is some clean stuff, variable dynamics, etc.
Let me put it this way:
My producer from one of my band's album, cut sections out of songs because they were just not needed and made it too repetitious. My producer friend would probably cut 1/3 to 1/2 of "Play" - and I must say, though I did not at first, I agree.

I agree. There was a lot of un-needed repetition. However, it was still a very good song.

I am a big Dave Grohl fan, but at times he delves into a bit of musical masturbation.

My biggest reason for being a big Grohl fan is he to me is carrying the torch for rock music, of all types and for all instruments. Here's something a little different further stretching his endeavors. Pretty cool.

Wow...very cool. I like that studio door, too! I wonder if this is a studio at his house or off site.......

I suffer from Dave Grohl overload and am at the point that I just tune out anything he does. Just too much Dave Grohl for me. Not denying his skills or talent.....

Check the project out on the full website. You can isolate and switch between the different instruments on dedicated a/v feeds. Cool stuff.

    https://play.roswellfilms.com/

I think the project was intended to be pretty self-indulgent/masturbatory ... Dave has always screwed around with that "look at me I'm a rock star!" thing (sometimes not on purpose, for sure). He switches drum kits mid-way through this track, which is kind of like the ultimate nod to This is so absurd it's awesome. :headbang:

As a drummer & tech geek, the site is super fun to play with. As a fan of music, I couldn't make it through the whole 23 minutes. At least not linearly.

Exactly. He's not trying to replace those before him, but keeping rock n roll alive in this age of sampled and over-processed music.

I finally saw this video last night. As others have said, it does get repetitious at points, but the fact that he can do all that himself is still incredible. I just look at the big picture of what he was doing. It's not a song I'd listen to over and over, but it's kind of a musical resume of his talent across instruments.
