The entire Machine Head recording process is a marvel of history...

Not buying it. Sounds like a cover, Ian's playing is way tighter.

I also heard that, not sure I would need to listen to the studio track and A/B them. Overall pretty cool though!

Listen again. It's Ian. Listen to the way his snare drum sounds and the way ho goes around the kit. Also, the fills are exactly what you hear on Machine Head. A cover drummer would have had to spend months or years getting that track to sound just like Ian.
The sure sign is the way he does his single-stroke rolls at the end. Only Ian can make his snare sound like that.

And you can hear highway star playing in the background. Ian's buzz roll is unique. Also that was around 1972 and ian had not been playing that long. As the years go by you get better and tighter.

While I've heard the Bonham VS. Paige argument many times, I've always leaned towards Paice.
I am a huge DP fan as well as when he was with Whitesnake. His work was always tasteful yet with plenty of flair. He is also one of the very very few Rock drummers who's solos hold my interest.
