Roger Kellaway was in town this weekend, and he came into my gig. We hung out and talked. It was great. He told me some great stories about Larry Bunker. Larry was one of the top-call percussionists in the great days of L.A. He played on all the Henry Mancini movie tracks, and he played on a million jazz records. Here's a great clip with Zoot Sims, Larry, Kellaway, and Chuck Berghofer. Larry plays some great eights. Enjoy!

I found the late Larry Bunker's number in an old NSMD directory and called him in Cali one night to see if he had any vintage gear for sale (he didn't).

He didn't know me,but within a few minutes he was swearing up a storm like a old sailor, but in a good way >(he wasn't mad at me for calling)

Now there's a name you don't hear very often anymore, but he was an outstanding drummer and percussionist. I have an LP of him playing with Don Ellis.
