    Yaiba II Kits From Canopus
With the Yaiba II series, Canopus brings its unique tonal quality to a more affordable price point. The new models include new hardware and shells, designed from the ground up to maximize performance and value. Unlike other Canopus models, the Yaibi features a conventional finish, instead of the more costly and time consuming nitrocellulose lacquer. The new finish also allows for more color options. The Yaiba Groove kit features maple shells for a mellow jazz tone. The Bop kit features birch shells, for a brighter response

    Dream TryHat Redefines Hi-Hat Versatility
New from Dream Cymbals and Gongs, the TryHat redefines how drummers think about hi-hats. Drummers spend the most time playing the hi-hat, yet typically hi-hats are expensive and slow to swap out for a different sound during a gig. For its new TryHat, Dream has done away with the top hat/bottom hat designation and carefully selected three hi-hat cymbals to create the most dynamic mix of sounds available. Any of the three can be a top or bottom, allowing up to six sound combinations. With the addition of an extra clutch, quick changes during a set are a piece of cake. The player can switch from velvety and warm, to rockin' and fat, to tight and crisp with just one TryHat pack. Each TryHat pack is available in either 13" or 14" configurations and includes a Bliss, Contact, and Energy hi-hat cymbal, an extra hi-hat clutch, and a streamlined bag to carry it all in.

    Vater Tacky Sack Grip Enhancer
Vater Percussion's new Tacky Sack Grip Enhancer, the first product of its kind to be marketed to the drumming world, features a sack of grip-enhancing rosin powder that absorbs moisture and provides drummers additional control of their drumsticks while performing in humid and sweaty conditions. Gently "clapping" hands on the Tacky Sack applies rosin powder to the palms. A cord is included to hang Tacky Sack from a snare drum, stick bag, or hardware. "Once again, Vater knows just what I need even before I do," said Slipknot's Jay Weinberg. "Especially in intense, sweaty environments, Tacky Sack allows me to lose myself in the vibe of a song without worrying if I'm going to send a stick flying from my palms. My grip relaxes, and I'm better able to avoid carpal tunnel-like problems. Tacky Sack lets me thrash with complete control." MSRP $19.95.

    Jaspercussion Cymb Siz Sound Enhancer
The Jaspercussion Cymb Siz is an adjustable cymbal sound enhancer, designed for players looking for different and unique sounds. It highlights cymbal timbres that will both interest and inspire. From long and light sizzling sound to a short and heavy sizzle sound, this enhancer can transform the sound of any cymbal with unique tonal qualities.

New ddrum Max Series Kits Are A Triumph In Drum Tone
Spinning out of ddrum's immensely popular Tenth Anniversary drumset, the new MAX series pairs the dark, focused, and warm tone of alder with the cut, sustain, and presence of maple, delivering superior pitch and sustain through the entire tuning range. Alder provides a natural separation between each note in the drum set arsenal, allowing every drum size to sit perfectly in the mix, whether live or in the studio. Two core configurations allow the drummer to customize the size of the kit with selected add-on toms, bass drums, and two depths of snare drum. The drums feature ddrum's integrated Fixtpitch mounting hardware on all toms and solid brass tube lugs on toms and bass drums. Bass drums also include Resolift isolators and all of the shell hardware is plated in black nickel. MAX series kits are available in gloss black and satin natural, as well as a limited-edition Purple Sparkle Burst exclusive to the 2016 launch of the series.

    Kumu Expands Drum Lineup
From its traditional All Birch Custom series, Kumu Drums has added All Maple Limited and All Mahogany Limited models, as well as two new snare drums: Chrome Over Brass and Brushed Aluminum. Kumu All Maple Limited drums are made of 100% North American maple, yielding a recognizably strong, beefy sound. All Mahogany Limited drums are made of 100% African mahogany, for a rich, full sound. The Kumu Chrome Over Brass snare drum offers a new twist with a clear, strong sound, while the Brushed Aluminum Snare is versatile and authentic to many styles of playing. Both drums are available in 5x14 and 6.5x14 sizes.

Lo-Fi Drum Shells From Masters Of Maple
Configured to produce a more controlled sustain with a shorter decay, the new Low-Fi Shell is the latest in-house drum shell option from Masters of Maple. The Low-Fi Shell's two interior plies run vertical to ensure a fundamentally lower note, while the next five plies alternate with the eighth ply running vertical to control the energy of the resonance as it moves to the outside. The shell is finished with the ninth and final ply running horizontally to be finished to the player's specifications. The Low-Fi option is available on both Neo-Classic and Limited Series shells in all species, and is available to order on the 50 kits that will be produced in 2016. U.S. and foreign patents are pending.

New Spinal-G Drum Thrones From Ahead
Ahead Products has extended its Spinal-G line with two new drum thrones: the Round Spinal-G Drum Throne (SPG-ARTB) and the Saddle Spinal-G Drum Throne with Back Rest (SPG-BBR). Providing maximum support and comfort, Ahead Spinal-G drum thrones are designed to eliminate tail-bone compression and support movement by improving flexibility and fighting fatigue, as well as hip, back, and shoulder pain. The Round Spinal-G Drum Throne features: 14" black round velour seat top; black sides; and thick memory foam cushion with a split seat. The Saddle Spinal-G Drum Throne with Back Rest offers: 18" black saddle velour seat top with back support; black sides on seat and back support; removable back support with self-adjusting pivot; thick memory foam cushion; and split seat. Both models feature a three-leg base; double-locking, threaded height-adjustment; and a durable seat connector plate.

Yamaha to launch new Recording Custom Drum Series Designed in partnership with Steve Gadd

Yamaha is pleased to announce that the famous Recording Custom Drum Series has been re-designed with Steve Gadd and will be released in 2016. Originally launched in 1975, the Recording Custom series (or 9000 series as it was known then) has become the industry standard drum set admired by world leading drummers, engineers, studio''s and hire companies around the world.
Regarded as the most recorded drum set in history, the all birch design was instrumental in shaping the modern drum set as we know it today including shell construction, interchangeable hardware and high gloss lacquer finishing.
40 years on and Yamaha will release a totally new design, having worked on a detailed 3 year R&D program with legendary drummer Steve Gadd to enhance the character of the drum set and consider demands of drummers today.
Steve Gadd explained, ''For the past 3 years I have been meeting with the research and development guys at Yamaha with the aim of bringing the Recording Custom Series up to date. I told Yamaha what I thought throughout the process. The result is that everything is a step up, yet they still feel like the Recording Custom. I think we did a great job, the drums sound great and am excited to see them unveiled so people can see and importantly hear them.''

Paiste announces the launch of the 2002 Black Big Beat, coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the legendary 2002 series.
Big Beat cymbals are available in 18", 19", 20", 21", 22" and 24" singles, and 15" and 16" pairs. The set represents a modernized, yet timeless interpretation of the celebrated 2002 sound.
Visually, the cymbals feature a distinctly new hammering pattern for the 2002 family, a slightly darkened, semi-matted finish and simplified black logos to distinguish the Big Beat set.
In terms of sound, the cymbals are rooted in the world of 2002 Alloy, with its celebrated brilliance, clarity, precision and strength. Big Beat models add particular warmth, depth and complexity to the mix. They are perfect for broad, voluminous sound without being overly aggressive.
The individual cymbals are designed to be multifunctional and work well across the range as both crashes and rides. Despite their sizes, the cymbals feature excellent manageability and well controllable decay. Warm luscious crashes, an airy, defined ping over a wide multi-layered wash, and broad, musical bells are the hallmarks of the Big Beat singles. The Hi-Hat pairs feature a broad stick over a fat, wet open sound and a rich pronounced chick.
With the 2002 Black Big Beat models, Paiste takes the 2002 sound into a new realm, while preserving the legendary 2002 heritage. Live or studio, these cymbals are decidedly multi-musical, well suited for a wide range of applications.
2002s are entirely made by hand in Switzerland using traditional methods that have remained unchanged in over half a century.

Paiste presents the launch of select extraordinary cymbal specimens, in an effort to test the limits, to challenge the accepted wisdom, and thus to expand the horizon of cymbal design.
The Formula 602 Modern Essentials gains a 22" Crash and a 24" Ride. Modern Essentials cymbals were developed in collaboration with Vinnie Colaiuta, based on the venerable Formula 602. The new models were designed in response to Vinnie’s craving for maximum depth, volume and power in highly refined and complex cymbals that feature utmost precision, clarity and musicality.
The 2002 Sound Edge Hi-Hat is now available as a 17". The wavy bottom design is a once patented Paiste innovation from the 1970s to produce Hi-Hat cymbals that are well defined and controllable with a sharp, saturated and full chick. The new, huge 17" version adds extraordinary boost, low end and crisp projection without sacrificing an iota of musicality.
The Giant Beat in 26" gives the word giant new meaning. This eminently musical cymbal embodies a clear and powerful stick sound, a pearly wooden ping, a deep whooshing wash, a tremendous swelling crash and a marvellously embedded strong and articulate bell. Giant Beat cymbals were originally developed in 1967 during one of popular music’s most revolutionary eras.
These new gentle giants are by no means experimental freaks – great care in executing function, musicality, and control has gone into the design of these eminently playable supersized models that are sure to add new dimensions to drummers’ soundscapes.
Formula 602, Giant Beat and 2002 cymbals are made by hand in Switzerland using traditional methods that have remained unchanged in over half a century.

Responding to popular demand from drummers and retailers world-wide, Paiste is making the Formula 602 Modern Essentials Crash, the Masters Dark Crash, and the PST 7 Crash & Thin Crash models available in 17" and 19" sizes. The new odd sized models offer Paiste aficionados a greatly improved selection for ever finer gradation in the selection of crash cymbals.
The Modern Essentials Crash models present clear, rich and strong accentuation, smooth feeling, and an explosive attack that fades quite swiftly. Modern Essentials cymbals were developed in collaboration with Vinnie Colaiuta, based on the venerable Formula 602.
The Masters Dark Crash models exude darkness, warmth, tender clarity, and a buttery, soft feel. Masters Dark Crashes were developed in collaboration with Gregory Hutchinson.
The PST 7 Crash models are bright, warm and brilliant with wide range, clean mix and responsive feel. The PST 7 Thin Crash models are warm and airy with a pinch of brilliant sizzle and a soft, responsive feel. PST 7 cymbals are the latest series in the Paiste Sound Technology range, and have since astonished the drumming world with their outstanding performance-to-price ratio.
Paiste enjoys a unique and excellent reputation for reliable design and consistency with respect to precise progression of pitch, function and volume across a range of sizes for a given, defined crash model. Formula 602, Masters and PST 7 cymbals are made by hand in Switzerland using traditional methods that have remained unchanged in over half a century.

Paiste announces the introduction of the Signature 22" Dry Heavy Ride «Monad».
The «Monad» 22" Dry Heavy Ride was created in collaboration with the eclectic Danny Carey, uniquely known for his infusion of geometry, science and metaphysics into the art of drumming. The resulting playing style, which makes extensive use of polyrhythmic figures, odd meters and complex time signatures, is a characteristic feature of the sound of the Grammy Award winning cult band «Tool».
The newly developed model is based on the traditional Signature Dry Heavy Ride, which has been Danny’s main Ride cymbal since the 1990s. In this reincarnation, the model is coated in translucent purple, using Paiste’s proprietary ColorSound process, and features a lathed bell, using the unique Reflector finish. The «Monad» 22" Dry Heavy Ride is a decidedly heavy cymbal capable of strong and cutting ride playing at elevated volume levels. It features a pronounced, articulate ping over a controlled, dark, deep and complex wash.
The strong, full, yet very musical bell is well separated.
As a tribute to Danny’s inspiration, the label «Monad» and three metaphysical symbols, being Danny’s personal choices in keeping with his esoteric interests, have been placed on the cymbal.
Signature Series cymbals are made by hand in Switzerland using traditional methods that have remained unchanged in over half a century.
Artist Inspiration cymbals are created by Paiste featuring Artists’ uncompromising sound ideas and visual concepts.

Paiste announces the introduction of the Signature 20" Duo Ride «Vir2osity».
The «Vir2osity» 20" Duo Ride was created in collaboration with the legendary Carl Palmer, the drum virtuoso behind the progressive rock supergroup ELP, who powerfully incorporated classical and jazz influences into the early rock drumming of the 1970s and continues to distinguish himself with his inimitable and energetic drumming style that highlights technical prowess, speed and dexterity.
The newly developed model is loosely based on the original Signature Dry Dark Ride, with its characteristic, pronounced hammer marks on an earthy dark surface, being the result of intense heat treatment. The outer perimeter and the bell of the cymbal are then lathed using the unique Reflector finish.
The «Vir2osity» 20" Duo Ride executes Carl’s exclusive ideas for a variable ride cymbal with distinct playing zones. In general, this heavy cymbal features a fairly raw, earthy, complex wash that’s very tight and controlled.
The overall glassy stick sound tends towards a drier, more raw and wooden note in the un-lathed zone, while the lathed zone presents a livelier, crisper and richer ping. The bell is well separated and decidedly loud and piercing.
As a tribute to Carl’s inspiration, the label «Vir2osity» and a rendition of Carl’s personal emblem have been placed on the cymbal.
Signature Series cymbals are made by hand in Switzerland using traditional methods that have remained unchanged in over half a century.
Artist Inspiration cymbals are created by Paiste featuring Artists’ uncompromising sound ideas and visual concepts.

Paiste announces the introduction of the 2002 24" Swish Ride «Signature Groove».
The «Signature Groove» 24" Swish Ride was created in collaboration with the prolific John «JR» Robinson, who kicked off his career via appearances with Chaka Khan’s Rufus and the Quincy Jones / Michael Jackson project «Off the Wall» in the late 1970s and went on to become one of the most recorded session and studio drummers in history, along the way developing his signature groove and inimitable «big» sound.
The newly developed model was conceived by JR as a complimentary ride cymbal to his Masters 24" Deep Ride.
It is based on a variation of the traditional Chinese style cymbal shape commonly referred to as «Swish», and executed utilizing 2002 Alloy with its energetic and brilliant character.
The «Signature Groove» 24" Swish Ride is a clearly large cymbal with immense sound capacity and an extensive range of dynamics, being fully controllable at various volume levels. It features an earthy ping over an exotic and energetic wash and is capable of swelling, trash infused crashes for dramatic accents.
As a tribute to JR’s inspiration, the label «Signature Groove» and the musical notation of the famous JR drum intro to Michael Jackson’s «Rock with You» have been placed on the cymbal.
2002 cymbals are made by hand in Switzerland using traditional methods that have remained unchanged in over half a century.
Artist Inspiration cymbals are created by Paiste featuring Artists’ uncompromising sound ideas andvisual concepts.

Paiste announces the introduction of the Masters 20" Mellow Ride «Blue Bird».
The «Blue Bird» 20" Mellow Ride was created in collaboration with the inexhaustible André «Dédé» Ceccarelli, the iconic French Jazz drummer whose over half century career has won him numerous collaborations with international top acts in Jazz and beyond, and who is especially known for his subtlety, diversity, artistry, wide ranging ability and musical charm that effortlessly transcends genres.
This previously released model is being re-launched under a new designation*, and was conceived by Dédé as a sophisticated ride cymbal for application in smaller instrumentations and intimate settings.
The «Blue Bird» 20" Mellow Ride is a medium light cymbal with a distinctly sweet character and a fine, buttery feel. It features a silvery ping over a warm, mellow wash. Akin to Dédé, it easily transcends Jazz and finds broad musical application wherever refined articulation and cultured style are required.
As a tribute to Dédé’s inspiration, the label «Blue Bird» and a graphical rendition of the label supplied by Dédé have been placed on the cymbal.
Masters cymbals are made by hand in Switzerland using traditional methods that have remained unchanged in over half a century.
Artist Inspiration cymbals are created by Paiste featuring Artists’ uncompromising sound ideas and visual concepts.
    * The re-launch under new name became advisable due to a legal challenge to the previous model designation by a competitive manufacturer.

Following the re-release of its, Crash Pad pedal, Electro-Harmonix has announced another reissue from the classic analogue drum synth series, the Super Space Drum.
Super Space Drum takes all the original circuitry from the 1979 original but delivers it in the now standard rugged EHX casing.
The pedal is most suitable for creating lower end percussive sounds, from deep kicks to high toms. However, through modulation, more sci-fi style tones and oscillation sweeps can be generated, too.
Super Space Drum perfectly complements the Crash Pad pedal and can be triggered by EHX's Clockworks and 8 Step Program pedals, gate signals from synthesizers or simple clock sync signals from drum machines.
The Super Space Drum is available now for $156.70. More information can be found on the Electro-Harmonix website.

"Vater Tacky Sack Grip Enhancer MSRP $19.95"

I bought a batter's rosin bag at a sporting goods shop for $3.99 and it's lasted for 10 years.
I apply some to enhance grip when winter dryness affects my hands.

Noble & Cooley Witt Snare Drums

We are excited to announce that we have purchased Witt Percussion and are introducing Walnut ply snare drums as our first offering using the designs and construction methods pioneered by founder Ian Witt. We will be displaying some of these snare drums in our booth at NAMM.

These are actually not new to us. A few years ago, we released a limited run of Walnut ply drums exclusively for Drum Center of NH using the Witt shell design. You can see Shane discussing and playing the drum here. They were very well received and sold out quickly. We decided to reach out to Ian Witt to see if we could collaborate again and Ian told us at the time that he had decided to focus on his other drum business - Erie Drums - and was looking for a home where his original designs would continue. We both agreed that a boutique custom shop with Noble and Cooley's heritage would be the ideal home to help ensure his legacy. All of these drums will now be hand made in our factory using the same equipment and specifications and our exacting standards.

This production run features all horizontal 6 ply, 6.5 x14 configuration and a vintage 8 lug design. The tone has a very retro vibe - big, warm and dry with terrific low end. We are proud to be offering these snares to the drum community.

I haven't seen a NAMM press release but on the Gretsch site there are a ton of new colors in both USA Custom and Broadkaster drums. They don't even have all of the photos up but there are some really nice ones already with a pic.

I'm also very excited by a bunch of the new Paiste Stuff.. those Big Beats look great as well as the odd size crashes in the 602 ME and Masters lines. All of the sound files at their web site are up and running.

Obviously there's bound to be even more on the way.

I'm hankering to try that 24" sig groove swish.

Edit: Listened to the sound file, sounds like an ordinary china to me. GAS gone.

Wow! Super excited to see Gretsch with new finishes (purple sparkle!!) and a better designed website.

Couple that with shell diameter specs we can all live with and few other improvements courtesy of the folks in Oxnard and I am willing to re-evaluate my stance towards Gretsch.

From long and light sizzling sound to a short and heavy sizzle sound, this enhancer can transform the sound of any cymbal with unique tonal qualities.

This sounds interesting, I'll google it to see if there's anything yet if not someone at the show maybe will post about it.

Found it, does look interesting but maybe overkill for what I'd want... I'll stick to my ceiling fan chain.

    Right on!

I want to see them fill in the rest of the photos for the finishes - pretty impressive offering from Gretsch.

I never I thought I'd be excited to see items from Gretsch and Ludwig, but this year it's happening.
