Ok lets for discussion sake the Acrolite is Ludwigs most affordable and iconic snare. What snare would it be for the other vintage manufacturers? I dont mean sound like acrolite as much as just iconic and yet somewhat affordable. Gretsch, Slingerland, Rogers, etc. What are your thoughts about them.? What would you get and why. Doesnt have to sound like an acrolite but it would break the bank either. Thanks. You all always have great insights on this stuff.

Rogers COB Powertones I think would fit that description. Ive bought a couple of them for Acrolite prices over the years and they sound fantastic.

+1 about both the Rogers COB Powertone and Slingerland COB Sound King snare drums. Made by the 1000's, were offered as standard for many kits. Definitely iconic! Not quite sure what the corresponding Gretsch snare drum would be, as I don't have enough experience with them.
