About a year ago, I bought a well used but clean flat base DW CP6500 Series Hi-Hat Stand (the original, not the ultra light). It works just fine, but when I was closing it up yesterday, I noticed an indent in the pipe where the wing screw tightens down when set up. It's probably been there the whole time I've owned it and I just never looked down there before. My question is whether this a factory design, or was the original owner one of those types that over-tightens everything to death?

Both of my older DW6500 stands have the same indent. It makes sense - the wing screw will not slip when it gets tightened into the indent, which then houses the tip of the screw. Here is one of mine:

Excellent! Thank you very much for confirming that, Mike.

Mine also has the indent. It's a great stand! Mine is still going strong after 5 years of gigging.

I agree, Woody. It's quite sturdy, much more so than the UL that I traded it for. It's well designed and remains lightweight. I just couldn't get too enamored with the UL: flimsy in comparison.

I just noticed this on mine today; glad to know not a flaw - honestly the best stand I've ever had.
