With a thread about your latest purchase...curious what's in your collection that's been there fo'ever.

Me-an old Sabian HH thin 16. Might have been bought in the late 80s or early 90s. It replaced one of the first cymbals I owned (and cracked)...a zildjian factory second 16. This cymbal also started my appreciation for Sabians.

    Tryna think, lol.....hmmm,

I have so many freakin' plates here because I've done so much tradin' & swappin' with DFO members that all my older stuff was recycled thru the years, so I guess my oldest now are:

    8" Avedis Splash
    20" K. Zildjian Z-MAC crash/ride
13" K/Z hats listed in the FS section

    All from the mid-90s (yawn)

The 2oo2 set I sold here I bought new in 1980.
I no longer have anything from my earliest drumming years.

A pair of Istanbul Zildjian Hi hat cymbals and a ride probably early 60's--bought in the early 70's. I just put the ride back up with my practice kit. Probably because it was my first really good cymbal, it set the template for what I've liked to play and hear.

Technically, my very first cymbal was bought by my father, for a Christmas present in 9th grade. A Camber, which I could never enjoy the sound of, but wish I'd kept now for (as my dad would say) 70 mental reasons.

I've recently shared in another thread that my oldest cymbals are my 14" Sabian HH sizzle hats, purchased in 1987 with money I'd earned doing yard work for my Grandparents that summer. However, looking back, that isn't correct.

I bet my 22" Sabian medium flange ride predated that. I remember my dad helping me pick that out at the drum shop as part of the purchase of the drum set he bought me, and the hats came later when I could afford them myself.

Oldest: All Zildjian: 14” new beat hats, 20” ping bought ride new in 1975, 16” crash bought used in ‘73,
A friend gave me a 60’s 22” ride, has a big keyhole but is an amazing cymbal, Big bell, huge wash,

Over the past 10 years I acquired Sabian HH cymbals that I gig with, and my trusty 16” Wuhan China, (cost $30, seems indestructable by me at least)

All 3 are from about the same time in 1995: A set of 13" K/Z hats that were my main hats for at least 10 years, many gigs, a few albums/EP's and other things.

OR, a 20" K custom (brilliant) ride - my buddy got drum lessons from Brian Zsupnik, a pro in L.A., and he sold it to me for cheap. He was on tour with Boz Scaggs and his gear got stolen in Japan, so he was invited to the factory to replace the cymbals. This was his hand picked ride he used. Man, what a player he was. He had switched to Paiste so he gave it to me for a real reasonable price. Man, did he have stories.....and had a DW kit that was incredible!

OR, an 18" K dark thin crash - from O.C. Drums & Percussion - probably 1995, too. I call this the Bonham crash - I mean thunderous! I don't even use it as it's so wonderful. I can tap with my finger and fill up a room with the sound........

My 1985 Paiste 2002 Heavy Ride. It’s probably due to it being heavy that it’s survived my days of bashing because none of my others have.

I have a couple of early 80's Paiste Sound Creations that are probably the oldest that I currently own, but the one that I currently own that I bought NEW is a 10" Paiste Signature splash from 97/98. Anything else I've had before or after was either sold off or broken.

The cymbal I've owned longest is a 16" Bosphorus Antique Thin Crash which I bought new in 2002. That is very different from the oldest cymbal I own which is late 1930s.

Mine is an 18" K Dark crash that I bought used from Sam Ash around 94. My friend Ken, then the drum Dept. Manager there called me one afternoon and said get down here and save me from a divorce...lol I showed up... He hit the crash cymbal ... I said I see your dilemna ..lol. he said of you don't buy it I have to and I'll need your couch. I saved him from his troubles for 75.00 ...turns out it was my very first EAK bit I didn't know that till I joined this group in 2011.
