6X14" Eames Snare

My "go to" snare the last few years when I'm playing blues on a full size set will be my custom Eames snare. A nine ply birch drum, 6X14 with vintage Ludwig lugs, throw off and butt plate. The top hoop is a "S" hoop and the snares are from Precision. Ludwig Weather Master medium head on the top and a thin hazy Remo diplomat on the bottom. Joe MacSweeny did a great job building and putting this together for me. Joe is not just an assembler of drums, he makes his multi-ply shells from flat boards that he bends himself...He and his drums are the real deal...I had to talk him into putting the gold sparkle wrap on, but he did it and it matches all my other gold sparkle Ludwig drums. And by the way, Joe calls this drum an "Eameswig".
Beautiful snare. Nice to play a Ludwig medium batter. Very responsive. There is a reason for that. Something is very interesting about Ludwig heads that is good to know. I found that they are excellent on a snare as long as you are not a very hard hitter.

The Ludwig "Medium" is the thickness of the Remo Diplomat. The Ludwig "Heavy" is like an Ambassador. Learned this from Gene Okamoto of Pearl Corp a few years back in the Pearl forum.
