And that was the longest beater we could find (modern or vintage) to go with that 28" bass drum.

Haha thanks. We actually rehearsed the cowbell cue because if she didn't hit it hard or confidently enough, the band might not all come back in which has happened before. I had made the same "more cowbell!" comment but wasn't sure she got the reference since she wasn't born when the SNL skit...

The band and attendees followed all Covid-19 protocols from the event organizers and the state of Massachusetts. It was an outdoor event and masks were not required.

Yep, August 6 - our first one since the pandemic.

Thanks Kurt! Here you can hear Mira soloing on your 1930s WFL 7x14 snare with Stern Tanning calfskin heads and Grover SX wires:

Glad you liked the videos. I know our trumpet player Clara Mazo had a bunch of friends in the crowd and they were heckling her the whole time, which was pretty funny.

Hey Kurt, yes this is Frank the bandleader and that is the WFL snare you sold me. We put calfskin heads on it from Stern Tanning and it sounds great. Mira the drummer is not my daughter but one the players we trained while in high school, and she likes your snare the best. We had the floor tom...

Haha Brian - glad you were able to see and hear your cymbals in action. We love them!

This definitely was not staged. The band has a sizeable teen following (probably due to the age of the musicians) but we did not expect this kind of youth turnout or response.

Glad you like! The Beantown Swing Orchestra is actually a pro band with most of its players aged 16-22. Almost all were recruited while in high school or middle school and trained on Swing Era music performance using pre-WWII instruments. The show was at Crane's Beach in Ipswich on August 6...

Unfortunately due to technical issues, we had to use (poor quality audio) from one of the camcorders that was placed on stage next to the heckling crowd. There is also a phone video where you can hear the drums better since it was right in front of the main speaker:

    What ride for big band?

We play strictly Swing Era (1935-1946) big band music and have no ride cymbal. The largest cymbals we use are 13" hi-hats and a 13" crash, 450-600g. Time is usually kept on the open or closed hi-hat, and it's never been an issue for the horns not being able to hear it.
