I think they are calf but I`m not 100% sure. They are cracked unfortunately-

Very old snare....play it with modern drumkit?

No, a Belgian "Sonorus". Company exists until today.

Very old snare....play it with modern drumkit?

Not a heavy hitter? This drum survived two world wars. It should fit my punk and speed metal ambitions...:icon_e_biggrin:

Very old snare....play it with modern drumkit?

Today, I got this strange one. It had been offered in my hometown for a reasonable price. The look of it really got me! After gathering some information, this is likely to be a pre-WW1 marching drum from the belgian manufacturer "Sonorus" (nothing to do with Sonor). Material should be...

    Vintage MIJ or...?

Was advertised as "kids kit". I guess the wrap is not original.

    Vintage MIJ or...?

Hardware looks a bit unfamiliar to me for a MIJ stencil kit. American origin of this kit...?

Sonor Teardrop with sharp bearing edges?

Hard to describe with my rudimental English. The bearing edge has a relatively sharp kerb on its top (the slightly darker line). Surfaces left and right of it are a rounder than a classic 45degree Sonor cut but definitely not round like on Champion or other Teardrop bearing edges.

How to relearn rudiments and basics?

I`m sharing Squirrel Man`s drum biography to a certain extent and started playing in 2019 after a decade of doing nothing. Rolls, paradiddles, weak hand exercises on a pad are my main exercises. I`ve learned that I get better results by dividing daily exercise time in two parts. 2x30 minutes...

Sonor Teardrop with sharp bearing edges?

Everything is possible! One of the last Teardrops from April 1972 with a sharp bearing edge (not 45 at all) on a 12' tom.

    Sonor snare stand surprise

    Yes, you`re right. Solid rivets.

    Sonor, I`m disappointed...

I was surprised as well to see all bearing edges to be round when I picked up the kit. Might have been a "custom order" as the vendor told me her husband bought it from a former pro-jazzdrummer in the early 1990s.

    Sonor, I`m disappointed...

I fully agree! I couldn`t believe teardrops would sound so nice until I got one. Phonics were a bit too much thump for me but Super Champions (9ply with round bearing edges) feel right.
