Jazz drummers, do you gig with your vintage kit?
I have a 60's Ludwig Downbeat that I occasionally play out with. It's in great condition, so I don't like moving it around too much. However, it's so light compared to my USA custom that it's actually more convenient for gigging.

Yes, that's an idea. I have tried a similar set up with an H4N Pro. It worked well for rock, but, again, I had issues getting the levels right when playing jazz. Maybe the EAD10 does a better job at this, since it's made for drums.
That's exactly the issue I have. Either I can't hear the music or I can't hear my drums well enough to know if I'm on time. It's difficult to find that magic level. I guess I could play muted drums as you suggested and just use it as a time exercise and forget about working on my "touch".
