Anyone one else playing this weekend

I played my gig last night in Albany NY. But, I didn't video record the show... ...after a brutally physical long day at work I just wanted to slam a few drinks and go Animalistic all over my kit like a sloppy low-fi garage band. :toothy7:

Are smaller bass drums that much easier to play?

20s are awesome. With a 20 you get the best of both worlds (punch, and lower frequencies than an 18 or a 16. After switching to my next drum I reckon I can retire the 16 back to its floor tom origin, or keep it home as a coffee table! :angel9:

Mesh head for the front of the kick drum?

In this wee hour (4:14am NY time) I went on Reverb and ordered an Evans 16 inch SoundOff mesh head from a vendor in New Hampshire... it will arrive to me by midweek. Although I like Evans drum heads (especially their clear red Hydraulic heads) the Evans logo will get removed, or obscured by...

Mesh head for the front of the kick drum?

All good points, thanks for everyone's input. Indeed I must protect the bearing edge, so any head up front is fine. Someone asked "why have a front head at all?" I want to try the mesh head, because the mesh is open like a window screen allowing air and volume to escape the drum shell...

Mesh head for the front of the kick drum?

I'm not a big fan of open-front kick drums except when it's done in a recording studio. So, I'm thinking about replacing my Reso head with a mesh head... I really don't wanna cut a port hole into my current reso head which is the beautiful clear red Evans Hydraulic batter head that has my band...

Are smaller bass drums that much easier to play?

Ditto, same here. Although I like the sounds and thuds of 22" kick drums, I really love the punch and tightness of my 16" kick; and it's easier for me to carry around. It's true that a kick this size can belch out a good volume when tuned right, and has good beaters and heads, AND a good kick...

Are You In A Band Contest In Your City?

Well, my band didn't make it into Round #4 of the Nippertown March Music Madness contest. It was a fun contest, nonetheless; and it got our band name out to more of the masses. I send out good luck vibes to the remaining bands in the contest. I don't mind my band participating in a contest...

Anyone one else playing this weekend

A song from my band's stream show in Hudson Falls NY last Friday. The house kit I was playing on is a beautiful Natural Wood Yamaha Stage Custom... (more video footage of songs from this show can be seen in my YouTube channel) This song is titled "Midnight To Six Man" and it is a cover that we...

OT: Has much changed in the past 20 years?

MUSIC INSTRUMENT CATALOGS have changed... derrrrrA$$tically! ...ugh! Twenty years ago i enjoyed receiving physically published paperback magazine-style music catalogs by mail from Musician's Friend, and other music instrument retailers... reading material while I have a snack or sit on the...

What percentage of the time do we need more than a 4-piece kit to play music?

Yes the carts are expensive to replace; that is why supermarkets now have GPS electronic devices to locate them if they get taken off the property. Before that happens, the wheels automatically lock, the moment a cart gets wheeled off the property... the parking lot has sensors, if a cart gets...

Today marks one year since my last gig.

During the past year my band has played two private party gigs (Safely); had two Studio Recording sessions; weekly rehearsals as usual (because Rehearsals AIN'T stopping for Rona, lol); and two incidental gigs at a venue with limited capacity; meanwhile my band's CD album "Apocalypse Wow!" has...

What percentage of the time do we need more than a 4-piece kit to play music?

Shopping carts are all the rage, man! You know how folks go shopping at their local market, and haul their groceries home in a shopping cart and they abandon the cart on the streets... ...I grabbed a couple of carts. I cut one down to make it into a flat-bed dolly to haul my hardware in a...
