    RIP Charlie Watts

This really has shaken me. I normally don’t feel all that down when famous musicians die (with the exception of George Harrison, and I was probably too young to feel the loss of Lennon succinctly) Most celebrities are so into themselves that I don’t feel a real sense of loss when they go. Just...

What is your unpopular drum opinion?

I get what you are saying. I guess I kind of like that pull/ tension going on there.

What is your unpopular drum opinion?

There are likely others but one that jumped to mind was Good Bait. I think recorded with Columbia. Big band version.

What is your unpopular drum opinion?

I did a rock gig for a few years with a trio who always had a fourth member multi-instrumentalist. When he quit we couldn’t find a suitable replacement. Leader just put all the parts on loops which I controlled from a computer. It really taught me to play in time.

17-Year-Old Drummer Toured with Cameo! Rolling Stone Skips Ahead to Dull Clapton, Midler, Steely Dan Gigs

    Gig that changed your life

Saw Uzeb when they came through Hamilton Ont. in about 1988. They could not have been more than 15 people in the audience. And they blew the doors off the place. Incredible tight and complex while still grooving hard. Had a great conversation with Paul Brochu afterward about who he had studied...

17-Year-Old Drummer Toured with Cameo! Rolling Stone Skips Ahead to Dull Clapton, Midler, Steely Dan Gigs

Didn’t they refer to Emory as White in paragraph 3? No wonder these legends are unknown if even Rolling Stone doesn’t have the integrity to proof read.

    Favorite live album

Live album recorded at sound checks on their world tour. Joe Jackson’s Big World. Not my favorite but that sure is one tight band. Thought it deserves a mention.

Afraid to practice because people might hear me

The most helpful teacher I ever had told me “practice what you aren’t good at” He would always scratch his head when he would hear people in other practice rooms playing things they were already good at for hours on end.
