    The "Ideal" Crash Cymbal Size?

If i had to have only one crash it would be an 18". Currently using 13" new beats, 20 " A medium ride, 15" A paper thin, 16" A rock crash, 18" A custom and 19" A custom. Used to have a 17" K fast crash and a 18" K dark crash but they both ended up cracking. Lost interest in the K range after that.

    1980's Pearl confusion

Thanks for that. I am inclined to let this kit pass by because the seller has less than brilliant feedback score, has ignored my last message inquiring about if they are actually maple and the spurs look like some 1980's Premier ones that i used to have on an APK kit. Never mind. I only need a...

    1980's Pearl confusion

So are these drums MX series, late 70's or early 80's ? Seller says they are maple but there are no long and thin "Maple shell" badges on them. I could drive 20 minutes and pick them up. He has not replied to my message yet asking what series they are. Many thanks, Stu

    Cut down cymbal

Hey. My little 11" splash made from a 17" zildjian k dark crash sounds very industrial. Like a sound you get on an industrial kit from a drum module. I like it but when i played it to a band member (also a professional sound engineer) he said wow but qualified that with "but of course its for...

    Cut down cymbal

Right. Drilled two holes and followed the crack with a dremel with cutting disc inserted. Job done. Zildjian A 16" rock crash back in service. Sounds great and not far off what i can remember it sounding like last time i played it (over 10 years ago). So i have two more cymbals salvaged from...

    Cut down cymbal

Hey. Yeah, it was my first decent cymbal. I find it a bit thick and unresponsive to light sticking now but back in the day when i was learning it was awesome. Could still be good if you hit the thing hard enough. At the other end of the scale are the K dark crashes. I had two, a 17" and a 18"...

    Cut down cymbal

Hey. I just cut down a badly cracked Zildjian K 17" dark crash that i killed years ago. Wasn't holding out for much success but i am very happy with the result. I have a little splash cymbal now which sounds kind of industrial. I really like it, so much so that i just played my kit and couldn't...

    Traps drums! What????

Thanks for the replies. I have some decent clear pinstripes doing nothing that i could put on. There is nothing wrong with the heads on them but they are the traps ones and i thought that they were lesser quality ones made by remo ? The 16" is not essential but my main kit is 2 up 2 down so...

    Traps drums! What????

I keep saying i want one of these kits and do nothing about it. But a set has come up locally at a decent price so i am going to go for it. I take it these traps drums will take any standard heads ? Any opinion on which are best ? Also, traps make a 16" drum but i think it might be with a...

    1980's Pearl confusion

I am now the proud owner of an early 80's 10 x 14" export tom in red. Just 22" bass and 12" tom left to get to create my 12. 14. 16. 18. 22 vintage export kit. I know these are only exports but they sound acceptable to me and they pop up for sale everywhere at cheap prices and are more than good...

    1980's Pearl confusion

Export 18" ft arrived and i gigged it last night. Woah, i never really realised how much i have been missing with large diameter toms. My biggest was a 14". Now i have a premier elite 12 x15 (very nice), export 14 x 16 and export 16 x 18. I was missing so much of the frequency range and i am...

    1980's Pearl confusion

I just bought another Pearl export drum. He must be mad i hear you say. At this rate i am going to end up with a full kit. It's an 18" floor tom from late 70's early 80's. It has the little coffin lugs and a brand new evans level 360 batter head. Got it for £45 GBP including postage ($58 USD)...

    Vintage Premier snare drums

Well, i have never had any kits in my life apart from Premier. Oh i do now own a very early pearl 16" ft to tide me over til i find or make one that matches my kit. I must admit i have been drawn to all sorts of things on ebay of late. I'm like a dog with his head out the car window at the...
