    My Rosewood Slingerland Spitfires

I have two of these 12-lug beauties wrapped in factory rosewood: A five ply 5.5 X 14 and a 3-ply 6.5 X14, both circa 1980. I have yet to fix the small nicks in the finish (easy), but the hardware is near perfect. The finish of the 5-ply is slightly darker. 0 by Stephen Duffy, on Flickr 0-1 by...

I love when new bands play old drums! 70's Rogers Big-R's, in this case.

In New Mahogany finish too! Pomplamoose plays "Fight Back": Pomplamoose plays "An Old French Tune" (Je Mi Suis Fait Tout Petit) , with a vintage drum mash-up, including a silver sparkle Ludwig, and Light Blue Pearl Gretsch tom.

Are these 70's natural finish Slingerland drums salvageable?

Atrocity Alert! 24" virgin bass drum, with 14" and 18" toms from the late 70's. They appear to be rosewood! But somebody long ago painted them aquamarine, then changed his mind, and stripped the paint off. But you can see the how its pickled blue in places. $500...

One Pic Wonder: What happened to this extraordinary Slingerland kit?

The promotional black and gold Louis Bellson Explosion kit, made for the 1979 Slingerland Drum Contest! The kit of dreams ... What might it looked like in color? Scanned from Modern Drummer. What happened to it? Did anybody see it person? Any other photographs exist? Do YOU have it? 0 by...

My restored 1980 rosewood Slingerland 80N Buddy Rich kit

I'm finally done. My dream kit, an eBay wreck, purchased two years ago. She is a 5-ply lacquer kit, whose finish has lightened over her forty years. She is darker under the lugs, but not as dark as the catalog implies. Enjoy! 0 by Stephen Duffy, on Flickr 0-3 by Stephen Duffy, on Flickr 0-1...

    Slingerland TDR strainer oddities question.

I've noticed some slingerland snare drums equipped with TDR strainers do not have the small plastic "S" badge attached to the strainer and/or the butt plate, even though there is an indent to receive them on each. Are they knock-off strainers, or just a characteristic of last-ditch eighties...

Has anyone owned, or even seen, a Slingerland Louis Bellson "Explosion" Kit?

The sizes were, if I remember correctly, two 24" kicks, one 13" tom, two 16" floors, with a set of four high pitched concert toms, 6", 8", 10", and 12". Aside from the catalog, I've never actually seen one, and man, I have looked. Back in 1979, Slingerland produced a black-beauty Bellson...

    A Slingerland finish I didn't know existed.

"Black Cordova!" The regular "Cordova" finish was a tannish brown, but I never saw a black leatherette version before. The long scratch on the floor tom indicates that she's probably not been dyed black. That's what makes collecting Slingerland drums so great - so many different product choices...

Are your stained/veneered Slingerlands color-code stamped?

Here is a pair of undated, scratched but nice 3-ply mahogany Slingerland drums, a 22" and a 16", for sale on eBay: They are clearly...

Interesting vintage-looking, drum-less 'trap kit' in this video ...

... is it a wash-board? The percussionist sure knows how to play it. The Avalon Jazz Band, performing "Ah dis, Ah Bonjour!"

    Slingerland Slapshot strainer question

Could I replace a Slingerland Slap-Shot strainer with a TDR strainer without having to drill new holes? I heard that the Zoomatic and the TDR have the same footprint, but does this apply to a Snapshot as well? I've got one that still functions well, on an otherwise lovely 1980 Violin-Red...

Rogers New Mahogany Celebrity kit on Reverb

The Bass Drum needs proper hoops and claws, but she appears to be in good shape. Being a 22,18,16,13, it might have been pieced together, especially considering the Fullerton/Dayton mix of tags. Pretty even if plastic wood...

Looks like a vintage Slingy in PMJ's "Gangsta's Paradise"

PMJ being, of course, Post Modern Jukebox. A three piece silver sparkle Slingerland, by the looks of that abandoned tom mount bracket, and the floor tom lugs. That snare looks like a 12-lugger Spitfire too.

My new 16" Remo Coated Ambassador won't fit my Slingerlands!

I'm finishing up my restoration of a 1979-80 Rosewood-veneered Slingerland Buddy 80N kit (5 ply), and while all is going really well otherwise, my two brand-new 16" Remo Coated Ambassadors batter heads won't fit. They seem slightly too wide for the stick-saver rims. I had to put the crappy old...

My new Slingie TDR parade snare has an odd feature!

It's a 15 X 12, 10-lug TDR snare from about 1979, in pretty darned good shape for only $168. But Centered between the upper edges of the long lugs - and on the direct opposite side of the strainer - is a single Slingerland floor tom leg bracket. It looks factory installed, but I'm not sure what...

I guessing this Reverb "teak" Slingy FT is actually rosewood?

It sure must have been a beautiful drum when new. That really is some wild grain pattern. Why is the seam-side splitting - water damage perhaps?
