Now that's fine ride work. I'm guessing that's called
Fusion Jazz but I don't pretend to know it or where it deviates from modern Jazz. But nice work anyway.. he's letting the stick do the work.
I've seen this and I think Zildjian has captured or a very close to the sound of Joe's original ride. I lucked into a 70s 22in Zildjian Canada ride last December that has a very similar sound and as Joe is my all time fav i was very pleased. As I stated I loved Joe's ride work especially on Take...
Dead on OC. That Bolero would drive him nuts. But if anybody thinks Buddy couldn't play quiet and disciplined has not listened to a great Verve Jazz album recorded in 1957 called "King of the Vibes". It's Lionel Hampton Vibes, Oscar Peterson piano, Ray Brown Bass, Buddy DeFranco Clarinet and of...
I bought a Brass Cat this year. It's part of their Sound Lab Black Panther series and I will tell you it's the finest snare I owned in 65 years of playing... ultra sensitive, can be played soft or kick butt and the hardware is superb.
As regards Sound Lab I'm guessing it means computer...
Being old I'm not familiar with about 90% of the artists listed. The ride came into it's own mainly in the fifties as I recall. When you look at the Big Bands of the 30s and 40s one will see cymbals were small and used for accents only and the Hat was used extensively. I first became aware of...
My latest.. Mapex Brass Cat. Super sensitive, dual snare adj and fact it can broadcast big or small without annoying ring requiring muffling.
I have Osteo but the Cat makes it seem like I'm young again, especially l.h. / trad grip.. rolls, snaps, fills etc
Awhile back I decided I liked a brighter lighter sound than the 3 sets I had around. I had purchased a Sabian 14in B8X crash as it was bright and had some sizzle. So I purchased a second and now use them, selling the others off. Interesting to note that one is in the key of B the other D when...
Hey Pasquale
Move to Italy. Have you not seen where you can buy a home in one of those quaint small village homes for $1 ? Buy a small Olive grove and a Donkey snd bask in small town living in that warm Sun. Of course you have to like Pasta.
Damn, if I was only 20 years younger ..
Cymbal sound is so subjective as you can see by the posts. A couple of years back I wanted a thin Turkish sounding cymbal and not wanting to pay those prices, especially in Canadian dollars. I listened to YouTube and chose a Dream 20in Vintage Bliss as it sounded just what I was looking for. The...
Hey
I'm 80 and in 2018 I lost my Bride of 57 years and thought I'd just stay in the Canadian Prairies and continue going south in winter as we'd done for years. As things started to go bonkers in Fla and Texas...so many people "packing"...stand your ground law.. etc. I decided to winter in the...
First of all I love her because she's Canadian has a fab voice without that forced twang or vibrato and is drop dead gorgeous.
She has a fab sense of timing as well. I've played hundreds of Country dances and her number
" Who's Bed Have Your Boots Been Under" s a great 4/4 Swing number and...
I believe it has to do with the depth in the case of toms. I switched to a Sonor Safari 5 years ago. The rack is only 10 x 8 and when I try to tune it high especially with coated heads It died. Same with 14 x 12 floor tom.
I could tune them a little higher when I had clear Pinstripes on them...
My fav of Dwight's is "Your the One" My Bride and I took Ballroom Dancing lessons and they used that number as the perfect example of a Waltz tune. Eat your heart out Strauss !
Your right in my ballpark. I need that sensitivity as I do a lot of buzz rolls and single left hand rolls when playing Jazz with Trad grip. The two snares I had were ok but then I discovered the Mapex Brass Cat. Wow..it's supersensitive and so easy on my Osteo hands wrists and deformed fingers...
