Where does the Tama SLP line fit into their hierarchy

I have a SLP Bubinga and it is a great looking and sounding snare. Tama has so many lines. I was wondering where the SLP series fit. I know that Starphonic is the flagship followed by Starclassic

"Low" "Medium" "High" Snare Drum Tuning

I prefer center strikes (assuming it is not an over amplified setting) since it is rounder sounding.. not as sharp but it seems to have more "feeling". On my supra, my DD reads 88 in the center.. all lugs are evenly tensioned... and my frequency meter reads 196 = G.

"Low" "Medium" "High" Snare Drum Tuning

I know the difference because I can read a tire gauge. But what is the reference for a snare to measure the tension on the head.

"Low" "Medium" "High" Snare Drum Tuning

I watch all these demos on YT and notice that when testing a snare, usually superimpose low, medium, high tunings. The demonstrator will usually turn the lugs a bit and then call it medium tuning and so on. My question, which I know is going to be subjective, is what constitutes low, medium...

    Quality of Recent Mapex Drums

I used to own BMW's (going back a while) handled great; nice panache; but maintenance bills sucked. So I test drove a Kia Sonata and a Honda Accord and the Kia had it all over and cost less. Kept it for 5 years and never had a problem. Both my sons have Optimas...never been in for repair other...

What is the Quality of Heads from DFD

I have ordered parts from them before and they were always top quality. Their heads with no logos are 1/2 the price of the brand names. Is there any difference in quality if anyone has ever used any of these

    Quality of Recent Mapex Drums

Let's not forget the Falcon Bass Drum Pedal. I tested all the top brand pedal and this was the smoothest of them all and came with a chain/strap and optional direct link. For a price that was well below all others.

DW6000 Strap Pedal Cam Hits BD Head

[ When I slide the BD clamp as far as it can go onto the hoop, I don't see how the tightness would have any impact on the distance of the cam from the head other than to hold it in place at the close range where it rubs.

DW6000 Strap Pedal Cam Hits BD Head

I like the idea about the extra hoop. But as far as tightening the tension... I would think that the tighter the tension would give you more real estate and not less since it would flatten the head and therefore move it away from the beater. Do you agree of am I missing something here

DW6000 Strap Pedal Cam Hits BD Head

I have been using this pedal for one year and went to change the head. I noticed a scuffing down by the pedal and when I examined the cam I saw that is was rubbing. To correct I had to back the pedal off the hoop. Is there any other fix to this

    Quality of Recent Mapex Drums

I know that in the 90's they were a lower quality drum company. But from what I have read recently they seem to have lifted their game and make some professional level drums. I heard some demos on the Black Widow and the drum seems to be very well made and sounds fine. Does anyone have any...

I thought 60's Supraphonic Snares Came with 2.3 Hoops

I always believed that the old supras had 2.3 while the Acros had 1.6. I was very surprised to find that that the old supra hoop weighed 443 grams and the new supras 202X weight 645. Do all the 60 Supras carry the lighter hoop?

    For Anal Drum Tuners

I am only testing the batter head. Why would the lugs on the reso have any impact if it is the same for the DD reading and the frequency reading

    For Anal Drum Tuners

Of which I am one. I use a Drum Dial, Iphone Pro Tuner, and my pitch perfect ears;) I have been experimenting on my 196X supraphonic. I know how to seat a head and tune a drum. I am trying to understand why when I use the DD and tap two lugs (one reads 85 and the one next to it 89). The Iphone...

Finished My Comparison of 60's Supraphonic to 2020 Version

Agreed that they both do the job..very little difference. But the difference in the weight of the hoops does reduced a bit of the overtones on the newer one.

Finished My Comparison of 60's Supraphonic to 2020 Version

If I did a blind test I would probably go with the newer version. But, I have owned the 60's snare since 1970 and it has it's own mojo. Also, it has a muffler which I do not use but it is there. The difference is very slight. The newer snare is a bit more focused and I'm sure that has to do...

Finished My Comparison of 60's Supraphonic to 2020 Version

I also noticed that with the Evans 360 reso that the hoop sits closer to the top of the drumhead than the ludwig weathermaster

Finished My Comparison of 60's Supraphonic to 2020 Version

I did some additional tests today. Very time consuming. As I mentioned that old snare weighs 7 pounds and the new one comes in at 7 pounds 10 ounces. I weighted the tension rods/washers and the old set weighed 97 grams while the new ones with the larger washes weighed 91 grams. When I weighed...
