High end kits sans high end cymbals; might be looks rather than sound? Cymbals are an acquired taste and evolve as you develop skills and age.

Bobby Colomby was my gateway drug into jazz. I saw him a couple times Summer of ‘69 with Blood Sweat & Tears. He blew me away, crispest snare tuning I ever heard and he made those Fibes sing. His dynamics in Smiling Phases still makes me pause and smile to this day.

Timely thread, I just put this kit together yesterday for playing acoustic jazz. I still have to deal with the throne issue. I haul a Roc n Soc with a backrest, the weight equivalent of carrying around the bumper off a ‘58 Ford. So far too comfortable not to.
