Camco Los Angeles tom post (single or double)

Greetings all, I'm almost done with restoring my LA kit, just missing a tom post. I'd happily take a single or a double so long as in working condition. Thank you. -nicolas

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

Nice kit and interesting sizes. Pity there's no exact date from the post. One thing I've noticed is that DW, as late as my "A" prefix kit, was using the metal Camco bass drum lug spacers on _all_ the toms. These have an elegant curvature that follows the contour of the drum, and must have...

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

Thank you for the reply! If a "B" prefix came after the "A" prefix, it would be inconsistent with drumphil's pencilled date on his "A" prefix 1991 bass drum. One possible theory for "A QUALITY INSTRUMENT" black badges is: 100 prefix = up to 1981 200 prefix = 1982 300 prefix = 1983 - 198? A...

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

Thank you for this information! Is it possible to ascertain the year he purchased this kit? I'd also love to hear from people who might have shells / drums with year for the 300xxx prefix! Cheers!

Well dang, how to remove this stain from Camco Oaklawn

Thank you all for your responses. It does appear that a chemical bond has formed between the "biscuit" gasket and the (mercifully not original) finish. The marks are smooth to the touch. I don't mind the gaskets, but I was a bit surprised to see the marks when removing the lugs!

It eats at me that they're there. What's prep-sol please?

Well dang, how to remove this stain from Camco Oaklawn

I bought an Oaklawn kit from a wonderful gentleman who had decided to put DW gaskets ("cookies") under the lugs of the 14, 16, and 20. He hadn't gotten to the last drum, a converted Tuxedo to Aristocrat 12", and I decided it should have these gaskets as well. (Yes the grommet on the badge is...

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

Gorgeous kit and snares! I love that black brass snare! Update: 1xxxxx serials: 1981 (User 4164SB writes “Both snares have have 100 prefix serial numbers and were purchased new in 1981.) 1981 (User orangemi on vintagedrumforum.com writes he acquired a snare from its original owner who...

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

Hey Musiqman! If you’re talking about the badge you posted earlier A038XX, I believe the first character in their serial numbers may have designated a year, or a period, 1, 2, 3, A, and B, before moving to the “HANDCRAFTED SINCE 1972” badges, so they all had five digits in their serials. Your...

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

We can agree to disagree on that point, and I'm confused why you're now saying this after your piano analogy which I think is great. A piano, you'll agree I hope, is pretty much all notes and chords. Tuning drums is a subjective thing, "what's best for the drum" and "what's best for the song."

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

Thank you all for the replies and information. I agree that the hardware on that 100xx black badge DW looks to be Camco, including spurs, floor tom legs and mounts, and Trods and claws. It’s hard to tell from the pictures if the bearing edges were redone (by DW or someone else) or not, but the...

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

That is a beautiful kit Markus, love that blue lacquer with the grain showing! Thank you so much for sharing the story, the discovery, the sound, and the ups and downs. (The canopy bursting water over your new kit is the stuff of nightmares!). Sorry about your guitar player! You and I have...

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

I did ask for clarifications, with the serials, and got somewhat of a generic response: So this can be considered a “Pre Collectors Series” kit. The A doesn’t really signify anything. This is just a serial number that you can use for insurance purposes if you want to insure your drums. When...

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

Thank you for the reply Elvis! I'd love to nail down something more specific than "late 80s" on the manufacture date, and the name of the finish. Does everything look original? The spurs look like Gibraltars? I'm noticing several different variations of DW "A Quality Instrument" black badges...

Late 80s(?) DW kit, information please!

Long time lurker, hello everyone! After going down several rabbit holes trying to gather more information about this DW kit, I hope it’s ok to ping you all here to see if you might provide me with any information and insights. What DW said: So this can be considered a Collectors Series set...
