    I Think I Have A New Stick!

Interesting. I'll have to try the KC.

I haven't tried them, but the pic resembles the sd4.

    Gigging bop kit

Jazz drummers, do you gig with your vintage kit? I have a 60's Ludwig Downbeat that I occasionally play out with. It's in great condition, so I don't like moving it around too much. However, it's so light compared to my USA custom that it's actually more convenient for gigging. How do the...

Anyone Playing All Older A. Zildjians?

Yes, my go to hi hats are 60's A's. I have 20" A ride which is fun, but too bright to play in most acoustic settings. Who modded your cymbal and how?

    Playing along to records

Yes, that's an idea. I have tried a similar set up with an H4N Pro. It worked well for rock, but, again, I had issues getting the levels right when playing jazz. Maybe the EAD10 does a better job at this, since it's made for drums.

    OT Favorite Clint Eastwood Movies

Any excuse to mention Omega Man is fine with me.

    Playing along to records

That's exactly the issue I have. Either I can't hear the music or I can't hear my drums well enough to know if I'm on time. It's difficult to find that magic level. I guess I could play muted drums as you suggested and just use it as a time exercise and forget about working on my "touch".

    OT Favorite Clint Eastwood Movies

Omega Man is great, but that's Charlton Heston.

    OT Favorite Clint Eastwood Movies

The Leone movies are the best. The Gauntlet is underrated.

Wood Snare To Complement a Supraphonic

One more vote for the Pioneer and Jazzfest. I just realized that I have both, and a Supra and an Acrolite and a Black Beauty. Why do I have so many Ludwig snares?

In praise of Bass drum mounted toms

Unfortunately, I was traumatized by the older Ludwig mounts which invariably collapsed and scratched up your bass drum. No issue with the sound either way.

    Playing along to records

Yes, I hear this same advice from countless legendary drummers. I really think it's an acquired skill though. Great list. I will check it out.

Yes, that does concern me. Not being able to hear my mistakes.

    Playing along to records

I'm trying to practice playing along with jazz records. I have a hard time finding a good mix between my drums and the music. It's difficult to for me tell if I'm playing on time when either my drums or the music is too loud. With some albums it's easy: Kind of Blue, Soul Station and other...

    Any lars Ulrich fans here?

I would say Jeff Porcaro is a far better drummer than Lars, and yet I'd rather listen to those early Metallica records than anything Toto ever recorded.

    Ludwig 60s vs DW

Yes, they had a 15x12 option. I think the standard was downbeat sizes (20/12/14).
