video demo of my 4 mics recording setup

They do, don't they? Sometimes you just lose a bit of perspective or get biased when it's your own stuff, but when I finished tuning/setting 'em up and I tweaked the buttons, cranked up the volume and man! I was kinda floored (no pun!!)... that 12 Inch is just ridiculous, almost fatter than the...

    The "graveyard" subforums

Not to be a contrarian, but I remember there being a big multi page discussion about this very topic a few months ago and a lot, if not most of the responding users were unaware of/didn't use the new post function. I don't have the time atm to sift through the (pretty flawed and frustrating at...

    The "graveyard" subforums

My grief wasn't necessarily about this particular video not raking in lots of views... It was more about the seemingly randomness of what gets moved and what stays in the main area of discussion. Dcrigger explained it with great accuity... On General, there pops a discussion about mic...

Glynn John’s miking...... Ez and it works!!

Dang! I'd love to adopt him as my replacement grandpa... He was the first freelance superstar engineer/producer and truly shifted the paradigm of the "sound engineers in labcoats" . The way I do it is an Hybrid between his technique and the "recorderman" position (where the second OH looks...

    The "graveyard" subforums

I was gonna say that the intersection between DFO members and Jpop//Kpop afficionados in a Venn diagram would probably be so small, you'need an electron microscope to see it, but hey! It only took mere seconds to find one... What do I know? ;-)

Glynn John’s miking...... Ez and it works!!

You are 100% correct sir... My bad, I'd forgotten about kid bro Andy... When I purchased the mics I read an excerpt from a Vintage King article wich refered only to "Johns and Page placed the mics in such and such fashion..." so I just assumed Glyn...

Glynn John’s miking...... Ez and it works!!

I use 2 Beyer M160's for OH wich incidentaly were the "stairwell mics" that Glynn Johns and Jimmy Page used to give "When the levee breaks" that awesome verby delay... I posted a video demo yesterday of my mic setup wich is pretty similar but with an added snare mic...

    The "graveyard" subforums

This would make so much more sense... Don't get me wrong, I indulge in OT babbling as much as the next guy, from time to time. But since this is a dedicated forum about drums, drums related user-created media should, at the very least be somewhat higher priority, exposure-wise, than off topic...

Amen to that! (or any other non-denominational approval word of your choosing) Once again, you knock it out of the park with an astute and well laid out argument. And I thank you. Edit: Even more on point with your last post (#35). I agree 100% with what you're saying.

video demo of my 4 mics recording setup

Exact. And I still cross my finger everey time I sit behind the kit, hoping that the M88 gets through the session unscathed. But it sounds too good so I'm taking the gamble every time... I wouln't do that with a 5000$ mic, but this is fairly cheap and I can afford a capsule replacement if I...

Thank you, I have a foam protector on mine too. I know what you mean about the pressure limit, but as it is now is closer to the batter head. I used to leave it farther away from it (almost flush with port) and there it was really apparent that the accelerating gust of air wasn't doing the mic...

video demo of my 4 mics recording setup

Thanks, the kit is a late 60's Holiday and the snare is a Gretsch 135th anniversary Broadkaster. Here's the secret though: there is a single sheet of paper resting on the batter head. I couldn't eliminate the tendency to ring with tuning and drumdots alone and other mufflers like BFSD's were too...

video demo of my 4 mics recording setup

Well thanks a lot, I have very weak hands and/or no technique, but I think I can make simple grooves feel somewhat good (To me anyway) . Happy that my playing works for you and thanks again for the kind words.

video demo of my 4 mics recording setup

If the 160s were enough for Bonzo and Glynn Johns to create the most iconic rock drum tone of all times, they sure are enough for a hack like me... Plus their soft-ish top end sweetens the harshness of my room by A LOT. I'm definitely sold on Beyer in general. Killer mics for the relatively...

    The "graveyard" subforums

95% of all comments sections on the internet are a non-official "boobie forum" so I think DFO as it is, is almost refreshing in that regard... Almost...

    The "graveyard" subforums

I'm aware this function exists, but rarely if ever use it. And I remember a thread about that not too long ago where a majority of members replied that they didn't either. My bad, really... I know it's there but if I'm opening DFO just compulsively and without thinking (like I do many times a...

    The "graveyard" subforums

So, I just got a thread moved to the video files sub-forum. And yeah, ok, I understand that there is a system in place to arrange things in pre-determined categories. The thing is, it is somewhat sad that user-created videos are sent to a sub-forum where trafic is virtually non-existant. A...

BeyerDynamics M160's as Overheads BeyerDynamics M88 Kick AKG 222 Snare top All go through a Phoenix DRS-8 (preamps) and are recorded in Luna with a UAD Appolo. There's a smidge of Pultec EQ on the snare, nothing on OH's and Kick. I use Kush Audio's Novatron comp on the drum bus, pretty...

Finally played my new (to me) 13x8 and 24x15 Club Custom's. I'm in love once again!

Well they're the first Yamahas to ever do something for me visually and that makes me curious to hear them... The swirl finish and color sorta give them a certain pizzaz that offsets some of Yamaha's usual "this is the sensible option" aura. Anyway, congrats!!
