    Direct Drive or Chain

Man, I wanted to love direct drive but wasn't for me. I had the trick pro 1-v, amazingly engineered and beautiful pedal but just felt to rigid to me.

It was brought up, and now I am curious too. Coated Batter Bass Drum Heads?

I think a challenge for me is separating how the kit sounds from behind the kit vs what it sounds like in front of the kit. Notably where the bass drum sits in the acoustic mix, with a loud snare and the hihat. This is why I've always tried to avoid ported reso heads when I can get away with it...

It was brought up, and now I am curious too. Coated Batter Bass Drum Heads?

I mentioned in a prior thread (before it was deleted I guess?) Would like some help in understanding music styles, tuning, and muffling methods used with coated bass drum heads. I generally like a punchy/staccato thud with my bass drums. I have had great luck with clear emads but what can I say...

    Floor tom tuning/tone help

Thanks all, I'll give the isolation feet a try. I'm not really looking for more sustain but I like the tone control aspect for sure. Makes sense because I've found suspended floor toms to sound better to my ear than those on legs!

    Floor tom tuning/tone help

Looking for some recommendations on something I have been struggling with for a long time. I have a real hard time finding a satisfying tone in my larger (16"+) floor toms. They generally just sound really flat. I've mastered the higher pitched drums and bass drum but the floor tom continues to...

    Question: upgrading sets

I made the choice some time ago to have multiple mid-range kits vs 1 or 2 high end kits. This allows me to have access to a variety of tonal woods and sizes vs having 1 static high-end configuration. I can also make some mistakes and resell mid ranged kits pretty quickly and pivot into something...

2nd generation Yamaha Stage Customs are excellent drums ....

I agree, the only thing I didn't care for was the snare. Everything else is fantastic Sonor AQ2s are also fantastic (the 22" bass drum is a real monster) but the hardware on the stage custom is much better imo.

Does Anyone Play a Bop Sized Kit and NOT play jazz here?

I use a 18/12/14 kit and I play in a reggae band. I use a roland RT-30k with a TM-1 module and run only a bass drum trigger through a mark bass amp that I pack to each gig. Maybe the mass is equal to a full size bass drum but I get the low end and flexibility I need for the smaller indoor gigs...
