One of the closest to unplayed I’ve ever seen.

Didn't mean to suggest anything otherwise or knock him! I realized he owned a shop as soon as I clicked the link (and thus, it's his job to sell). My thoughts were moreso for customers who might read this and think "nah, I'll pass" because they have loftier expectations than a set like this

One of the closest to unplayed I’ve ever seen.

Had to laugh at this. Granted it reads like a sales pitch, but there can't actually be a buyer who would turn this set down because it's not a "factory-sealed, 10/10" This set is gorgeous!

Anybody here score big at the Julien's Gretsch auction?

What's the story with those "new" Leedy snare drums? I looked them up online but couldn't find much, other than this site dated 2003: http://www.leedydrums.com/broadway.html

Help with Leedy & Gretsch (?) Purchase - What I have and what to do?

I knew pre-purchase I wasn't getting myself a matched site, but as I'm pretty new to the world of vintage drum collection and restoration, I'm still excited to grow my modest collection. Mostly excited to play them as the make, models and shell compositions all check off quite a few new boxes...

Help with Leedy & Gretsch (?) Purchase - What I have and what to do?

I love everything about this post! I noticed and was wondering about the lack of a bass drum muffler too, which I thought to be pretty common in that era. I need to check the hoops more thoroughly to see if maybe I can see any "bite marks" from the clamp-on spurs. Trust me when I say my top...

Help with Leedy & Gretsch (?) Purchase - What I have and what to do?

Thanks for the tip! I could definitely clean up and lubricate the leg mounts too, as they make a pretty unpleasant screeching noise when extending the legs down top-to-bottom. The guy that sold them to me said you have to just pull the legs all the way out through the bottom and then feed it...

Help with Leedy & Gretsch (?) Purchase - What I have and what to do?

Thank you! To be honest I have not considered doing that at all! Although I have seen photos/listings of some nice looking "natural" shells, I kind of get the feeling that when people strip the original wrap and "finish" the bare shells, it's more of an attempt to not ruin the original drum or...

Help with Leedy & Gretsch (?) Purchase - What I have and what to do?

Oops - yes, but I meant that 3 out of 4 legible stamps ain't bad (to paraphrase Meatloaf). I was referring to the one date and two shell model stamps. Here's a closeup of the FT stamp - seems like it was a "botched" application at the factory and not ruined afterwards by an owner, but overall...

Help with Leedy & Gretsch (?) Purchase - What I have and what to do?

Thanks everyone for all of the awesome insights and suggestions! I feel very lucky to have scored what I did. If I've learned anything from my brief time on this forum, it's "Buy the drums, ask questions later!" That's good to know, just based on that info alone I've been able to find some...

Help with Leedy & Gretsch (?) Purchase - What I have and what to do?

Thanks for all the info @Tama CW ! I definitely agree that these drums are not a re-wrap and in all original condition. There are no plugged holes inside, I wasn't aware that clip-on style hoop spurs were around back then (or that the badges would easily and commonly pop out)! I would much...

Help with Leedy & Gretsch (?) Purchase - What I have and what to do?

Thanks for the info! SlingerLeedy was not something I was aware of until after I got these home. Is it safe to assume the shells are mahogany then? And should I be concerned over the ply separations? Will they need to be filled/glued to prevent them from getting worse? Was it common in that...

Help with Leedy & Gretsch (?) Purchase - What I have and what to do?

Now onto the "Not Leedy, maybe Gretsch" 20" bass drum: No badge No spurs or even holes for spurs I started wondering if this was a marching band bass converted to a kick by adding the rail consolette, but it doesn't look "tampered" with at all 6-ply, no re-rings, no internal markings...

Help with Leedy & Gretsch (?) Purchase - What I have and what to do?

Hey everyone, Saw a local FB Marketplace listing pop up advertising 2 Leedy toms (12" & 14") and 1 "not Leedy, maybe Gretsch" 20" bass drum. I'm not too well versed in vintage gear beyond Ludwig, but it seemed like a good deal so I pounced on them. The photos weren't the best, and when I got...

    Acro vs. Blackro

Not to hijack this thread, but does anyone have info about blacro's manufactured with imperial lugs? Was that a thing for a time, or would it have been a custom mod?

Newbie Questions - 1967 Ludwig Hollywood

Hey SAZ, Struggling to find a pic of it right now, but it is the flattened-style double tom mount plate with Ludwig etched thinly into the face. It's not the mount that is arched and has the black label across the face. Hopefully that makes sense Thank you, trust me I will!

Newbie Questions - 1967 Ludwig Hollywood

Hey Mark! It actually looks like my brackets are different from both of yours! They don't have that cutout in the partition wall, nor do they have an arc either, they are just a straight and flat. Here's some other pics of them (the ones I removed have the numbers "1" & "6" engraved into the top...

Newbie Questions - 1967 Ludwig Hollywood

Whoa, thank you all for the help! I was actually already able to get the muffler off, those inner nuts just needed a spritz of WD40 to loosen up and then the rest was easy peasy. Took a bunch of photos to remind myself the order of all the parts when they go back on. Good to know about those...

Newbie Questions - 1967 Ludwig Hollywood

Ha! At that price I guess maybe it wasn't quite the deal I thought it was My dad played as a kid too and his first kit was a Ludwig back in the 50-60s! And while it seems to me he keeps EVERYTHING, unfortunately the set was long gone before I came along... Editing to add: I swear I tried...

Newbie Questions - 1967 Ludwig Hollywood

Hi everyone, I've been a longtime lurker on here since I began my quest to assemble a nice vintage kit within my budget. More recently, I feel I hit the jackpot by finding myself a 1967 Ludwig Hollywood in champagne sparkle. The drums appear to me to be in fantastic condition (and I may share...
