[SOLD] Zildjian 19" Kerope (1614g) (No Patina!)

Thanks, Pete. The bass drum here has Evans Calftone heads on both sides muffled with felt strips. I tune the batter head about a half step higher than the resonant head. I'll adjust the front head if I need to control the resonance (lower pitched for more, higher pitched for less). Hope that helps!

That was the 19" Kerope I was also selling. (Unfortunately, it sold already!)

    Meinl 14" Byzance Jazz Thin Hi-Hats (790g/1047g)

This is a pair of Meinl 14" Byzance Jazz Thin Hi-Hats in excellent condition. These hats feature a lathed top cymbal and unlathed bottom cymbal which contributes to a drier, more articulate sound. The design of the top cymbal yields a trashy, complex, yet pleasing sound when combined when the...

[SOLD] Zildjian 19" Kerope (1614g) (No Patina!)

This is a Zildjian 19" Kerope crash/ride cymbal. It's unique in that the factory patina has been removed, giving it an appearance closer to its original condition. It will soon develop its own patina over the years! The cymbal is drilled for three rivets and has three installed. Check out the...

Istanbul Agop 23" Signature Ride (2235g)

Hi all, Thinning the herd! This is a beautiful Istanbul Agop Signature ride in one of the rarer 23" sizes. It's very dark and smokey and makes a great ride/crash in almost any kind of musical situation. It's in like new condition and has only been played a handful of times. Thanks for looking...

    Paul Francis left Zildjian?

I know from a very good source that Paul was asked to leave the company. I probably shouldn't get into the details to be safe from a legal standpoint. In short, it seems that Zildjian/Vic Firth is more concerned with being a business focused on monetary gain than the historical significance of...

(SOLD) Zildjian 20" A Take Five Reissue Ride (2166g)

I'm glad you like it! I don't think the cymbal sounds bad by any means, but it's not the sonic palette I usually go for which is darker and complex. I'd rather someone have it that will use it more than me!

(SOLD) Zildjian 20" A Take Five Reissue Ride (2166g)

Hello all, Traded this cymbal with another DFO member. These reissues surely have a vibe, but I found myself not using it as much as all the other cymbals I have. (Which, if you know me, it's a lot of them!) Edit: SOLD!

Istanbul Agop Traditional Jazz Series (VIDEO)

Thanks for all the kind comments! I do believe these are different than Agop's previous Traditional "Jazz" ride, as the bells are hammered and the overall weight is considerably thinner. I do agree they are a little washy, at this stage, but as they age and get a little bit of dirt on them...

Istanbul Agop Traditional Jazz Series (VIDEO)

There was a recent thread about the new Istanbul Agop Traditional Jazz series cymbals and I managed to buy a set from Memphis Drum Shop when they were released a couple of weeks ago. I made a video showcasing these great cymbals with one of John Riley's great play-a-longs. Enjoy!

[SOLD] Meinl 20" Byzance Extra Dry Thin Crash (1419g)

Here's one I've had for a while that I just don't use as much anymore. It's a beautiful Meinl 20" Byzance Extra Dry Thin Crash dating back to the early 2010s when they first came out. It has all the things you love about dry, thin cymbals. Check out the video below, or a lot of the videos on my...

New Istanbul Agop Traditional Jazz (Memphis Drum Shop Demos)

I also think weight has to do with the player and their playing style. For example, I’m quite a light player and I don’t use a ton of velocity in my stroke. Therefore, I gravitate towards thinner cymbals because they speak with a light touch. For me, a 20” any heavier than mid 1800’s just...

    High frequency overtones?

I studied with Rick for a number of years. (He’s one of the only people I’ve heard talk about humming and also confirmed that 20” 30th was a hummer!) The technique you mention is also very good for controlling the wash of the cymbal as well. Remember, it’s only an issue if the hum makes such a...

New Istanbul Agop Traditional Jazz (Memphis Drum Shop Demos)

OK, so they were delivered about an hour ago and I can't stop playing them! These are great cymbals – very musical, complex, warm. They're very similar to the 30ths, and the bells are actually a little bigger than I thought. I have to get ready for a gig but I hope to post a proper YouTube...

New Istanbul Agop Traditional Jazz (Memphis Drum Shop Demos)

As I'm (not) patiently waiting for the FedEx truck to arrive with the new cymbals: I think these are quite different from the previous Traditional Jazz cymbals. There is more hammering on the bells and they look a bit smaller. I've heard them being described as somewhere between the 30th and...
