    Teardrops have bent legs??

Only straight until Champions I believe. My TDS have straight and my Phonics are “regular”. They both work and seem appropriate for the design/style.

Ok, Uber Rare Duplex BOP Kit!

Ok, so I’ve been super busy and progress has been excruciatingly slow. I’m calling this a “Refurberation” which is a cross between refurbished and restoration. New Glass Glitter from Precision. New tension rods. Aluminum has been cleaned and polished and waxed. Today I finally got the...

Gretsch RB snare drum 4157 - what brand die cast hoops are on this drum?

Those are Premiers. For the record, they are nice rims. The are diecast, but lighter than Gretsch They actually May open that snare up some. My RB Renoun snare is its own thing. I want to like it, but it’s got a huge center and I don’t dig the feel. I’m convinced it’s the rims. I’ve been...

Ludwig 20's lighted bass drum outlet

I had a 30’s Duplex bd with a light. I had to rewire it and it worked, but I didn’t use it. One option would be to keep the original but add some LED strip light for the effects. Safe, low heat, cheap and the wire is small. Often guys would use the vent hole for the wire exit. Then, you...

Best vintage set for the buck!?

Agree with everyone who said Rogers Bis R. I have been enjoying this one for awhile. The sound fantastic. Feel great. And that 24”…it sounds incredible! This one is very clean and really very nice. Typical spider crack here and there but not bad. Almost zero rust or pitting. Late 70’s...

No, they are double tension (Duplex was actually the first drum maker to patent double tension drums in the late 1800’s, one of their claims to fame). The aluminum tubes are for structure because the shells are super thin “aircraft aluminum”.

They claimed they were the only pearl covered metal drum. At the time 1930’s, they were well known and were what made Duplex well known. Duplex had sales all over the US and in 6 countries. Not bad for a very small drum manufacturer. But when metal rationing hit US manufacturers in ‘41, that...

Well…actually….the Peaveys are like the Duplex….sorta. These are all “aircraft aluminum”. Radial pros were similar and the both have SUPER thin shells. Very unique design, but totally solid from an acoustic perspective and in construction. Very ahead of their time and I can’t wait to hear...
