What's the best way to remove paint from an old snare drum

Alright, this is what she looks like without stain. Absolutely no pitting on the lugs. They shined up really nice. I’m thinking that I’m probably going to stain it. I just wanted to see what it would look like all dressed up:)

What's the best way to remove paint from an old snare drum

So, I’ve gotten almost all of the paint off and it’s definitely maple on the outside. The maple looks great! I’m not sure about the inner ply though as it’s much darker. I was able to get a strainer through L&M pretty fast and I already have the P32 butt plate. I’ll post some pics tomorrow...

    Gretsch USA custom.

I’m being wishful about appreciating in value. Thanks for that advice! It’s fun looking at all the awesome kits around. If only I had a lot more money and a bigger house:)

    Gretsch USA custom.

Well, basically a collector’s kit that I’ll play in my basement. My wife and kids can sell it when I’m gone, or whatever. Mind you I’m not dying anytime soon, lol. I want something that will keep or appreciate in value. I’ve got 4 kits to choose from if I wanna play gigs or practice. That...

Thanks for the great info everyone. I think I’m gonna pass on those drums. I’m not looking for a set to gig with or I would probably get them.

    Gretsch USA custom.

That’s what I was thinking, but I think he’ll turn that down. That’s ok though. I’m not necessarily in a rush

Would you say they are worth 1900 Canadian (about 1400 USD)? I wanna offer less.

    Gretsch USA custom.

From what I see in the pics one of them does. I can’t see the other badges.

    Gretsch USA custom.

Hi everyone, I’m looking at getting a Gretsch USA custom that’s listed on kijiji locally. It’s got the square badges and a ton mount coming out of the bass drum. The guy that owns them is the 2nd owner. I asked a few questions and everything seems good but there are no paper tags inside the...

I clicked the link and it says not available. I’m gonna go to Benjamin Moore and see what they have there. Unfortunately I don’t have a heat gun.

What's the best way to remove paint from an old snare drum

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I live in Canada and can’t get citristrip. I’ve looked everywhere. I’m definitely going to get a p-80 throw. I’m gonna see if long and McQuade can get one if not I see a few online. If it’s not mahogany then what wood wood it be?

Thinking of switching to 20 inch rides

I have 3 rides that I use depending on the situation. I have a 22” sabian aax omni, 18” Zildjian k crash ride and a 16” Sabian hh Manhattan Jazz ride. I like all of them depending on the situation. The 22” is the first 22” that I’ve been happy with as far as that size goes. The 16” is good...

What's the best way to remove paint from an old snare drum

Hey everyone, so I have this old Ludwig downbeat snare that I bought a long time ago with the intention of restoring it. I got distracted for several years and now here I am looking at wondering why it sat so long...lol. What's the best/safest/cheapest way to remove paint? I removed all of...

    Banner Mij drums

Ok, so it seems actually that they were made in the Star(pre-Tama) factory in 1966, based on what I can see on the vintage drum guide website. I compared the lugs and the tom mount and they seem to match up with the ones on the chart that I saw there.

    Banner Mij drums

It definitely seems to be Pearl and now that you pointed out that worlds supreme quality that makes it seem to be the case even more so. Thanks JDA. I did post on the other forum, but I couldn’t attach the pics, so I put a link to this thread in there instead.

    Banner Mij drums

Hey everyone I have this mij kit that sat on in someone’s barn for probably about 30 years. I cleaned up the lugs on the floor tom and I just finished putting the bass drum lugs in after giving them a good polish. I took out the original bass drum legs and got some DW clamp on ones. The bass...

Help with ID of Ludwig Monroe keystone kit

Thanks for the info Clay! I now see why I was so lucky to get this kit. There were a lot of replies to the ad, but I was the first to reply. I don’t imagine selling it as I’m really happy with it. I’m really liking how small it is in size but not sound. I had a pearl rhythm traveller and...

Help with ID of Ludwig Monroe keystone kit

Ah, looking at the bass drum again and it’s a 20 inch...musta grown overnight, lol. I was told it was 18 and didn’t think anything about it. It did look big to me though, haha. And Elvis, it’s my first birch kit. I really like it.
