OT - dealing with self centered friend

Started showing up about 3 years ago to the best of my memory. Has progressed to a level I never imagined when it started. I too have wondered if some life event hasn’t sparked the change.

OT - dealing with self centered friend

He has been a friend since high school, and we are still close. We talk several times a week, though we play in different circles these days. But lately I am struggling to relate to my friend and I have hopes that I can learn some insights into understanding my buddy and his motivations. The...

Stewart Copeland And His COB PEARL JUPITER

FWIW, I remember this post from Tama about 6-7 years ago.

Rock bands with female members....who was the first?

Ike and Tina Turner- 1960. Guess the case can be made they were more R&B, but few can argue she rocked!

Squashing the life out of my favorite snare

Most gigs yes, but this last gig I wasn’t mic’d. So the feedback I based my opinion on was the recording from the room.

Wanted: one dozen Promark Akashi oak 777 drum sticks

What’s the difference between these and the Neil Peart signature sticks?

Squashing the life out of my favorite snare

I’m a brass snare guy. My 3 favorite snares, of the 30 I own, are all brass. The wraith shipped with an Evans Heavyweight stock, a request it’s designer fought for and was granted by Mapex/Black Panther for his signature drum. After playing it a while I swapped out for a single ply UV1 and wow...

Leaving it all on the field

I began drumming at 14. Studio and gigged through college. Took 25 years off. Jumped back in a decade ago with more studio work (10-12 albums worth as part time session man) Toured regionally with a couple different artists. Today at age 55, I sense the end point, hopefully a couple decades...

    Tama Club Jam Pancake Kit

No doubt about it, that sounds good. However I wonder if the pancake style bass drum and ultra-thin single head toms wouldn’t practically require being mic’d for performing most live gigs. I played a small bar gig this past week with my Tama Club gig kit and due to a lack of mic inputs on the...

    Do gigs include teaching gigs?

I teach one student. My chops aren’t on display, im trying to convey technique and information to a beginner. It’s not a gig.

If You Were Going to Buy a New Drum Set, What Would it Be?

Yeah, you wouldn’t want your drums sounding like this..

If You Were Going to Buy a New Drum Set, What Would it Be?

I have played an older Star Classic kit, about a decade ago. I honestly don’t know if it was a Walnut or Birch or Bubinga. It sounded great, not much more one could ask for if memory serves. But I just don’t remember being moved enough to buy it. Went through that with a lot of high end kits...

    Eh, so be it. ;)

If You Were Going to Buy a New Drum Set, What Would it Be?

Such a good question. Owning 3 kits, studio, gig, and a mini-gig kit, I really have every base covered as far as both need and purpose. It’s a great place to be I won’t lie. If I were buying a kit today it would definitely be used. Too many stellar kits out there with almost no wear to justify...

Unusual 14.5” solid shell snare drum early 1900’s

The test kit is the only way I am aware of, but I am definitely not informed on this. Just a thought when I seen that familiar white crackle paint.

Unusual 14.5” solid shell snare drum early 1900’s

Is that lead paint? Sure resembles the lead paint I used to see in lots of home windows decades ago when I was an insurance adjuster.

    K like an A Custom?

Very bright bell. They do exist. Always thought it was just me thinking of this connection.

    K like an A Custom?

Yes, I have 2 different 20” K ride cymbals and one of them does in fact sound more like an A custom than my other K. I use the K heavy ride but don’t play the other K anymore due it it sounding too bright and pingy for my tastes.

    RIP Ronnie Spector

I remember in 1986 when she did the fantastic duet with Eddie Money, thinking, “she looks amazing for someone so old!” I was 20. She was 43 at the time. Today I am 55. It’s embarrassing how ignorant we can be in our 20’s.
