Seems like an inch and a quarter I wouldn't mind if it was smaller though because the outer tube can tighter to almost fit a tube that is half an inch. Ideally thought I don't want to crank the screw to get it to fit something that small so anything from an inch to an inch an a quarter.

Undoubtedly those play a role. I do hear a certain sensitivity and a liveliness similar to that of a metal drum though, that is what I am more trying to find.

I was really considering this snare. I have heard it sound different in different recordings though. Does it have a ring similar to that of Hutch's snare? I really like the sensitivity and crack of the Rosewood but in some recordings it sounds dry.
