I actually forget why I use them, but I want to say they're good, and they get crushed easily, so they last much longer if you stack them with a metal washer.
I got a bag of 100 or something for cheap on Amazon, I just looked up the approximate size of drum washers and looked for the closest...
Got handed a pair of 8 lug die cast Gibraltar hoops for free, GC said they weren't in the system and couldn't sell them, let me walk out the front door. Another item was 1 cent from one of the music chains, a recently discontinued (my best guess) item that was scratch and dent/store return. It...
$120 is definitely my shopping range for the things I consider bargains...I'm about that much into my 8-lug Olympic, I thought to sell it but it's sort of worth more as a vintage construction snare.
I got one on eBay and did as much research as I could, you can check vintage drum forums etc. Should be birch with beech rings, and certain colors are worth more, mine is cream which is common/cheap. I also bid low, thinking it was a 6-lug, but I got an 8-lug drum. Sometimes eBay listings work...

I've been interested in this idea for some time, it's cheaper than conventional wrap, durable, and I like a couple of pretty common colors. One fella on Pearl Drummer's Forum did a Marshall black tolex Pearl Reference Pure...
If anything I may need help shopping for router bits, but as to OP, I just want to know who does what, brandwise. Interesting how you cut your acrylics.
The tonewood debate is even worse with guitars, where it arguably matters even less. I believe Craviotto (or maybe it was Steve Maxwell demo-ing Craviotto snares?) has a video comparing two of their top bearing edges.
Heads matter a bunch less than tuning and muffling too, I learned buying...
Right, there are more companies than profiles now, but I'm wondering which is associated with each of the old brands.
I know Gretsch for #4 for, firstly because of the 30 or 60* argument, and also from liking pretty dead-ish toms.
This is what I was looking for, thank you. I'm not savvy...
FWIW I did this same line of questioning about brass shells, while learning about the old heavy shell Ludwigs from the 1920s, and got very little specific information. I'd still like a shallow 15" metal snare, but I've decided it suits me well enough to just beef up my 80s seamless Tama...
I got a used cheap Yamaha for $30ish on eBay and was really surprised at how nice it was. Then got a similarly cheap Gibraltar, a Prowler or one of the mid range pedals they made several versions of, again very surprised at the quality. Then got a PDP 502 middle range double that seems recently...
Costs $3, comes in yellow to compliment my orange snare, and I make cat toys with it because the cat likes to hunt ribbons and cords.
WARNING: Be careful cat lovers, some kitties swallow string and can get hurt!
T shirt or aluminum foil trick. What I'm thinking vs 'consistent good sound' or problem solving is to get a sound out there that works; I don't think triggering an 808 kick is some luscious great live sound so much as a tidy problem solver.
What about internal mufflers? Or a block of foam or...
Have you tried an inexpensive PZM inside the drum? I have heard demos where a Crown or similar mic did not sound like the sort of "BLICK!" sound the bass drum geared boundary mics get you, but you can find them used for $10-30 on eBay from AT, Shure, and others, so it's cheap to try. Make sure...
