    Wilcoxon Swing Solos help

Man very very interesting theory discussion of snare drum music. I was never in drum line or studied with a classically trained percussion teacher. Nor have I played out of that many books so far. I come from orchestra, playing the violin. In orchestral music for strings, there is absolutely no...

    Wilcoxon Swing Solos help

I think it may just be an idiosyncrasy of the Wilcoxon books. I think I get what you mean also, about how normally an eighth note with 2 slashes on the stem is equivalent to 4 32nd notes. But if we do a 5 stroke roll/ruff? in my music in the original post, it just doesnt make sense when we...

    Wilcoxon Swing Solos help

Ok i think I got it now. So a 7 Stroke Roll and a 7 Stroke Ruff will sound the same, but the sticking and what we call each of them differs. Im glad a lightening bolt did not strike me dead for calling a 7 Stroke Ruff a Roll…

    Wilcoxon Swing Solos help

YES. This same notion happens in Swing Solos sometimes. Thanks. Now i know im not crazy. Some 7 stroke rolls are double strokes and some single strokes. I guess we just have to imply the type of roll depending on the first and last stroke thats written. So like in the 2 instances you show...

    Wilcoxon Swing Solos help

Thanks everyone for the input! Any tips on how you approach Wilcoxon is appreciated. I didn't even consider playing the book with brushes. Ive played some of these solos on the floor tom with quarter note bass drum going and hi hat chicks. Very Gene Krupa sounding

    Wilcoxon Swing Solos help

Dude thank you for taking the time to write this and pass on this knowledge. You just gave me a mini master class. I really appreciate it. This is why I love this forum. Yes the unconventional accent patterns I've played thus far have been a little tricky, but I can tell they are VERY valuable...

    Wilcoxon Swing Solos help

I feel you. Now that I have it figured it out, I will definitely play it correctly. What I mean is sometimes, say if something is written as RLRL, I will maybe play it RRLL, just for fun. This is after Ive practiced and can play the whole piece comfortably the way its written at a nice tempo...

    Wilcoxon Swing Solos help

And of course it goes without saying, we can play it however we want. Im not being graded or auditioning. But I just wanna see how Wilcoxon intended it to be played.

    Wilcoxon Swing Solos help

Ya I was also thinking, does Wilcoxon assume that the player would infer that the and of beat 1 is also 7 stroke roll, if the pick up is a 7 stroke roll?? Therefore, he opted not to right 7 above the and roll. Buttt, the and of beat 1 starts off with L, the left hand. So if it was a 5 stroke...

    Wilcoxon Swing Solos help

Very interesting. I guess the flag of the eighth note is in the way if the lines were horizontal? Im looking at other places in the music and i think your right. Whenever there is an 8th note with a flag, the lines are diagonal.

Beginner Drummer: Kick Beater Keeps Coming Loose

You can get a bass drum beater memory lock. But in your case the beater is flying off instead of sliding down. But the memory lock is still cool to have to save the beater height. You can put a memory lock on the other side but that means you wont be able to take the beater off. And personally i...

I need just one tension rod. Where do I get it?

Cant you just go to your local drum shop and ask them to check their used hardware purgatory? Or even Guitar Center has a misc parts drawer behind the counter. This is what i did at my local shop when i needed just 2 memory locks. They had random parts in a tackle box they pulled out from behind...

    Audition Frustration

Maybe straight up ask the first band, “Is there anything I could have done better?” Let them know your just trying to improve yourself and not being confrontational. This is what i would do if i was really stumped as to why someone didnt like my playing. If its a stupid reason like “You werent...
