    Fredy Studer passed away today..................

very sad to hear this. I corresponded with Fredy a few times regarding his time at Paiste and in addition to being a great drummer, he seemed a very kind dude. RIP

Estrella or KORRI Cymbals? Anyone else seen one of these? Vintage Italian maybe?

I would hazard a guess the Korri cymbals were made by Meinl.

    Zildjian Swish - 17 to 18 in - pre-trans era - USN - 993 gm

the biggest Swish upon release in the late 30s was 18". The larger sizes are first seen in printed materials in 1948 when Zildjian started getting back to normal after the war. Perhaps they made the bigger ones during the war years but that would be a tough nut to crack as there are no drum...

Is this Paiste Cymbal a "Vintage" cymbal of some value?

yes, looks like 650276 is the serial- just before Paiste switched to the 8-digit serial Etched Paiste logo means early in the production run Beppe at Purple Chord has one for sale for 170 euros (97 serial). I find his prices to usually be a little on the high side but ~ $150 US seems about...

What makes you a Paiste or Zildjian guy?

that bright, glassy shimmer is the exact reason that I play Paiste. That's what I think a cymbal should sound like. But I appreciate any good sounding cymbal. If I could afford it I'd have tons of cymbals (especially old ones) from all makers to play around with.

    Zildjian Swish - 17 to 18 in - pre-trans era - USN - 993 gm

I did some US postal research and the red 2-cent John Adams and green 1-cent George Washington stamps seen on the back of the Orange "1937" WFL catalog were first released in May 1938. So that may mean that the "1937" WFL catalogs on DA are actually from 1938 and not 1937 which would slot the...

    Zildjian Swish - 17 to 18 in - pre-trans era - USN - 993 gm

Just want to point out here that the Swish is available in what is said to be the two different versions of the 1937 WFL catalog where it is referenced as being "new" so we may want to pin the release date of the Zildjian swish as possibly being in 1937 prior to the date of the patent being...

    Paiste 2000 prototype 18” crash

ah, one other important point regarding this topic more proof of the remainder of the serial being a counter is seen with the switch to the silk screen color logos in early 1981. The cymbals with 10xxxx and 11xxxx serials are almost always Black Labels and then the color ink starts on the...

    Paiste 2000 prototype 18” crash

I have done some research into this topic by checking late year additions to certain series (like the Splash and Heavy Ride into the 2002 line in 1975) and those cymbals have been found to have high serial numbers in the counter for their respective years, which verifies (at least to me) that...

    Paiste 2000 prototype 18” crash

for those above asking yes, Paiste Nottwil makes that many cymbals in a year. KIM every pair of Hats is two cymbals. Every set of marching cymbals is two cymbals, so there goes two serial numbers for each pair of those items. So, if Paiste is making 20K Hi Hats in a year they are using 40K...

    Paiste 2000 prototype 18” crash

the rest of the serial number is simply a counter 00 = the year (2000) and then cymbal 060333 (60,033) to receive a serial number in the Swiss factory in the year 2000.
