For me as a young drummer in these days, the Sonor Phonics were like a Mercedes. You could only dream of. But you had hope that some day after working hard you might afford a used one. The Signatures were like a Rolls Royce. To see one was the most you could ask for. I was most impressed that...

Paiste Sound Creation Bell Ride: the hype is real!

I also had my a-ha moment. Saw these interviews a while ago and already had the feeling that I have seen Fritz somewhere. Now I remembered that I knew him for years (maybe even decades), and just met him a few weeks ago. He's a drum shop owner in Germany (too far for me to visit) and often at...

Paiste Sound Creation Bell Ride: the hype is real!

Thank you. I've never seen a hole like this. But if it sounds OK and doesn't crack anywhere, I would also keep it as it is. Idea: You could use it as a stick holder. I just thought of playing brushes, and when you'd like to enhance dynamics, simply put the brush away with the right hand, take...

Live From My Drum Room With Dave Weckl - Q&A Session!

This was a really educational interview. Didn't expect such thoughtful comments about timing, styles, grip and so forth. Very open. And the brush playing, wow. OK, it sounded not very well on his practice pad, somehow like a drunken rattle snake. But his playing was absolutely master class...

Paiste Sound Creation Bell Ride: the hype is real!

This black thing below the center is a hole? How did this happen?

    Sentimental value of gear!

My condolences, Wes On topic If I think about it, maybe most of my gear has sentimental value. For example: There is no 'selling price' for the cymbals which were made for me at Istanbul factory and that I played for 30 years. They will just stay with me, even when I use more and more...

    What’s your favorite Nefertiti Clone?

Thank you for letting me know. Honestly these two videos are like day and night to me (and I have to admit, yours is not the 'day'). Another lesson to me on being careful about videos/soundfiles of cymbals.

    What’s your favorite Nefertiti Clone?

May I ask if these two videos show the exact same Funch cymbal at 2300g?

A 19 year old video of Carlock with the Dan playing Josie

Thanks for this video. I saw Steely Dan only once in my life during their 'Heavy Rollers Tour 2007'. Must be the same tour. Didn't remember the name of the drummer, just new he was quite young and extremely talented. Here a video I found from their Bonn (Germany) concert (I saw them a few days...

Paiste Formula 602 China type 20"

Hi Steve I would say: yes. Here some images I just took: It's very similar, just more dirt. Don't know how to remove this as I fear any abrasive polish will damage the already dim ink stamps. At least it sounds much better than it looks.

Live From My Drum Room With Jim Keltner!

Thank you, great tune. When he switches to the ride cymbal near the end, this is just outstanding.

Paiste Formula 602 China type 20"

On German ebay is a vintage one advertised: https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/paiste-formula-602-china-typ-20-/2256903626-74-1532 I don't know the cymbal nor the seller. Just wanted to add this information for Steve's database. And of course if somebody is interested, as these don't...

    Your latest cymbal purchase.....

Thanks for this comments. I thought about cleaning many times but always decided to leave it as it is and 'call it patina'. Maybe we should discuss this somewhere else (and I guess it was already discussed a lot)... Anyway, nice and rare cymbals, before and after.

Live From My Drum Room With Jim Keltner!

Yes, difficult to add anything. What a great personality. One question: I didn't get about which particular Rufus song he was talking about.

    Weckl playing Steve Wonder

In the 80s, I was fascinated by Weckl as well, sitting in his workshop and not believing what I saw. And I didn't listen very much to Steve Wonder music. But I have to say if I do the comparison today, it's different. Just listen how Steve's driving the song with his aggressive 'forward...

    Your latest cymbal purchase.....

Wow. Are these polished? They look like brand new. I bet they sound good. Together with this 2002 16" crash above I ask myself where you get these gems. Congratulations anyway.

Lucky students you must have ... :D If the gold plating of the hardware is 'as sensitive' as on the DW/Craviotto Snares, I would take care not to have any remnants of sweat left on the drums. So, don't treat your students too hard. Anyway, is there a sound example somewhere?

Any 15” Formula 602 Sound Edge Experiences?

About 20 years ago I was playing in a Deep Purple Tribute Band. I wanted the 15 inch 2002 sound edge and went to a vintage drum fair. I couldn't find the 2002s and 'only' found some vintage 602 15 inch sound egde Hi Hats. Very soon, my disappointment changed when I realized that 602 are (at...

    Your latest cymbal purchase.....

Hi Steve I'm not Don, but I also had the luck to get a Formula 602 22 inch Thin Crash that sounds fantastic. I already wanted to bring it to your attention for the data bank, therefore I do it here. Mine is a 'pre-serial' according to your resources, with a lot of patina (meaning never...
