Just want to revive this thread to say that myself and a few other Rogers enthusiasts/historians have hired a wood DNA specials and expert in microscopic wood identification to get to the bottom of what the shell composition actually is.
The results are in from the samples we sent early 60s 3...
Thats a beautiful first gen 4403 stand made for Rogers by Walberg & Auge.
Very valuable.
The 4402 is also first gen.
If the rest of the drums date to the 7 line they are 64 indeed.
Covington beauties
Beautiful Headliner outfit.
You should remove any more than two set screws in the ball and socket joint as it was designed for.
Any more than two works against the design and will eventually strip out the ball which is a softer metal than the set screws.
I'd hate to see any damage done to...
worth every single cent.
Beautiful drums assembled by Richard Studebaker and Othie Shields.
Original factory front bass drum head ... wonderful
killing Swingtime outfit
14x14 Rogers Covington built floor toms range from $1200 to over $2000 depending on the finish and condition.
a short video about them here
since this video I've acquired another with a set of black onyx drums ... seen in the photo below
I apologize man... I didn't mean they were a mess as in not a good set of drums ... my mind is always in Rogers purist mode ... it's a fault I have.. so when I see holes drilled and modern parts put on vintage drums my red flags go off.
This set will be absolutely killer as a players kit...
Zolatone interiors started in the summer of 68 when production moved from Covington to Dayton shortly before the move to the Fender plant in Fullerton.
Those drums are a mess and the top drum is either not a real Rogers drum or was a concert tom that someone added lugs to.
Would need more...
