I totally agree with the 12 vs 13 thing. When I am configuring a drum set from scratch, I like to have at least 2 inches diameter difference between every drum. So 10 12 14 is kind of an ideal for me. 12 14 16 would work if the two larger drums were floor toms because I don't want a 14 inch...
I recently sold a Gretsch drum set that had 2 12 inch toms. They are quite common. I like to tune my toms so that the floor Tom is at sol and the next highest tom is at do and the highest tom is at mi. Sol - Do - Mi. So relatively G - C - E. It's an inverted major triad and pretty standard. I...
Amen brother. It's already done at my price. I'm of the opinion that you buy something or you don't. Too publicly undercut someone's pricing is just bad karma and ill willed. It's one thing when you see ads for guys that mispell "symbols" and ask for 15 grand for $2500 drum set. That's kind of...
So the 1200 kit is not my kit. It is a mixed badge kit. 2 drums are black and silver and 2 drums are black and gold. I think that kit is an exceptional deal and if you like the drums, you should grab them.
For those who keep track of transactions for evaluating pricing on future deals, these drums sold at my asking price. It's always interesting to track the active debate of pricing and compare that to where transactions actually get done.
I love them! I have two. One that goes with GHW kit, an 8 lug and one 6 lug red/black duco. Great drums. Very articulate. Very resonant. Heads fit loosely and can spin when layed on top of the bearing edges. I have the red duco up on eBay currently if you are interested. Some pricing...
Oh one more thing. Just from the pricing standpoint. DFO member niles offered me this same configuration kit with a Krupa COB snare for $2,200 and DFO member Dave Drew offered me a 12/13/16/24 (YUM!) for $3K. We didn't do a deal, but I'm just saying I didn't pull $1,600 out of thin air...
So just a final note (hopefully): I received a PM apology from aldenyc2012 regarding publicly calling out my pricing and I thank him for that. I would have preferred it be public as was my apology to him, but so be it.
I think I'll go beat on my purple Slingy.
I've been doing this for too long. I can't tell you how many times I have posted sets for sale at prices that seem shocking to some people. They told me I was wrong, sometimes they called me a jerk and I still eventually got my price. And if I don't, I don't.
Al if I insulted you, I am...
You and I discussed a Trixon Telstar kit. My price was too high for you. You got the drum set cheaper elsewhere. I've actually sold that kit for hundreds of dollars more than you and I discussed. I've always been a patient seller.

Nice looking kit. Looks like it was up last week for $10g opening bid. Now it's $12g OBO.
Based on cmps, it could go.
The pad responds to open and close sounds controlled by the pedal so I can get the quick close effect out of the pad. However, the big problem is that I cannot hear the chick sound. If I really dig in I am getting a very faint double chick sound. But that is not suitable for playing. Any ideas...
Undisciplined.
Hmmm.
So this track would be better with Bill Bruford maybe?
Yeah right.
I think the posted question was "If he was still alive?" He'd be old. He'd probably have less explosiveness. I love his energy and the way he drives the songs. If he played like he studied with...
This one wasn't for sale it was set up for a house band at a coffee shop/bar in Shanghai. I just took the picture because it was old and had Chinese characters on the lugs and I thought it was cool.
You know I mentioned earlier how my kids cut their teeth in School of Rock. I can't tell you how many non-drummer kids in that program ended up taking up drums. Every kid who's house my kids got dropped off to jam with had a drum set whether their main thing was guitar, bass, keys or vocals...
