    RINGO and....Ray Wylie Hubbard??

First off I didn't say Ringo "sounded" like Keltner. Doesn't matter who was influenced by who. I was simply pointing out that Ringo played this song very similar to what Keltner would have played. It was just an observation, not an "expert" opinion.

    RINGO and....Ray Wylie Hubbard??

Sorry. I don't think I get what you mean. Spell it out for me.

    RINGO and....Ray Wylie Hubbard??

Very impressive. Ringo plays perfectly for this song with great feel. Very Jim Keltner-ish.

    Bill Withers - RIP

Can't mention Bill Withers without paying tribute to the great drummers he played with. Al Jackson, Jr. on "Ain't No Sunshine" and the one and only James Gadsen on "Use Me Up" with his signature right handed 16th note hi-hat groove. Great classic funk.

    Don Henley

Yep. You nailed it, Johnny D. First thing I thought about when I read the original post.

When Are You Too Old to Attend Drum Clinics?

Thanks guys, for your encouragement (and humor). Funny, at my age I'm still thinking "I need to work on my doubles" or "I need to work on soloing", etc.. Bottom line: I've been playing a long time and I'm still learning this instrument.

When Are You Too Old to Attend Drum Clinics?

First off, let me clarify this: I'm a senior. A little history: Pro back in the 60's - 70's, hung it up for a while, now it's an occasional gig, church gig, etc. That being said, I'm still as passionate as ever about drumming. Being self-employed, semi-retired, I've got lots of time on my...

New Item From Those Austin Boys - Kick-Bone

Hilarious thread. I pointed this phenomenom out to fellow band members when I started playing at this church where the congregation was predominately white and older. What's really funny now is that this church recently merged with another church that has a mixed race congregation. Now the...

Drummers With Multiple Kits: Ever an Issue With Family / Friends?

Interesting thread. First off, I think telling a family member "it's none of your business" is a little too combative (unless you truly don't like this person and would prefer they stay out of your life). I would approach it this way: Simply say I'm a serious musician and I need the right...

    Jack Bruno with Delbert McClinton

Cool. I know Jack's a DW guy, but what is that snare?

    Jack Bruno with Delbert McClinton

I've always admired his style. The perfect drummer for any vocalist. Never gets in the way, solid feel and just enough fills to accentuate the song.

One of the best drum tracks ever recorded

Yeah, I'm with you on this. Bernard really cooks. When I decided to come out of retirement and start playing again, I made a list of drum grooves that I wanted to master. This is one of them. Especially that drum break near the end. Ultimate funk.

    Diggin' on Little Feat

I recently ran across Little Feat's "Join The Band" album which was probably Richie Hayward's last recording before succumbing to the illness that eventually took his life. Man, that cat could really groove. I always loved the way he had that slinky Nawlins/Zigaboo feel to his playing. Truly...

    R.I.P. Doctor John.

Yes, the music world lost a legend. Never will be another like him. He epitomized Nawlins’ music. He even had his own vocabulary. My favorite was “Mos scocious”, meaning something was really cool or good. I was thinking about the first time I saw him perform live. It was a small club in...

Clapton wanted to join "The Band"

Dead on. One thing for sure, even though there are always egos to deal with, he probably wouldn't had to deal with any as large as Ginger Baker's, which is well documented.

OT: I don't really mean to be...

Amen to that, brother. I made the mistake of posting on the HOD forum a couple of years ago inviting anyone to join me on a trip to California to do the DW factory tour. I couldn't believe the insulting, degrading & humiliating responses I got. Basically, you have to be "A Somebody" in the...

Clapton wanted to join "The Band"

Ran across this interesting bit of trivia last night. According to his introduction of the The Band at their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, after hearing them, he re-evaluated what he was doing with Cream and decided he wanted to change directions in his music. Even went to see...

Guardian of the Groove: New Orleans Drummer and Composer James Black

I used to live in "Nawlins" and currently living up the road in Baton Rouge so I'm hip to James Black. He was always considered the top dog, mostly jazz, front runner to Zigaboo, Johnny Vidacovich, Stanton Moore and all the current crop of fantastic drummers always coming out of that city. His...

Man that sucks. My right foot issue is nothing compared to what you're going through (see my post about rt. ft fracture). Sounds like your doctors have done extensive testing, so I PT is probably the best for you. I've seen and heard of several people almost work miracles through hard work with...
