I was aware of the possibility of it starting on fire. I'm pretty careful when safety is a concern and I have removed many wraps. This one took me by surprise. I have fire extinguisher in shop that came in handy. But your right the best way would be outdoors with a hose nearby.

There is a product called level sealer, you can build up a pretty thick mil of finish with it and not worry about cracking. I have used it on a drum that was covered with cigar bands. When it was done the drum was perfectly smooth with the cigar bands buried under the finish. So why would you...

Well, I talked to my color matching guy and he is going to give it a go. Should have the paint in a few days. Its actually going to be a clear finish that will be tinted to the blue color. Im going to fill the grain then use a leveling product, then spray the blue, then a clear coat of gloss...

Well, I removed the wrap from the 13 last night but held the heat gun in one place too long and had a big fire. Lucky it was in my shop not in the house. Man that wrap burns hot snd fast. Waiting on jamming Sam sample, still not much confidence in a wrap matching.

Ya that looks like a really cool finish on that bass drum! I think I would try to cut the laminate to size on the table saw but leave it 1/4" shy of each edge. Problem with that is I better get the the laminate on perfectly straight. Im really leaning towards painting them after all this...

That is another good idea but they say they do not do color matching. So I would have to pick a color over the computer screen which is a bad idea. Im going to pursue the laminate idea first. I did look up vertical grade laminate and you are correct about that as well. See you taught me...
