    First Time Roto Tom Purchase!

Oh yeah, they sound cool when they're mic'd. But if they're not, they pretty much disappear.

    First Time Roto Tom Purchase!

For a while, I used 14, 16, and 18 Rotos instead of standard toms. Once the guitars started going, they got lost in the mix.

Biggest kit you have ever owned?

My current Mapex Orion kit is the biggest kit I've owned: 8x8, 10x8, 12x8, 13x10 toms; 14x14, 15x15, 16x16, 18x16 floor toms; 20x16, 22x16, 24x16 bass drums; various snares to choose from (but only use one at a time). But I never use it all at once. The biggest kit I've had and actually used...

Thoughts on Greta Van Fleet on SNL Saturday?

Yep. I can only base my opinions on what I've seen and heard. Just like everyone else.

Thoughts on Greta Van Fleet on SNL Saturday?

Okay, first off... I don't think I've seen one comment on here actually saying that "young people suck", or that "everything they enjoy is garbage"... Except for your post, and ones like it, claiming that people are saying it. So, in a thread where someone asks for honest opinions, everyone is...

    Anyone playing PDP platinums?

I'm the same. 15" is my favorite floor tom size. It used to be a standard size in all the catalogs, for most series in most brands. Now, it seems like they're usually only offered on the top-end and custom kits.

Thoughts on Greta Van Fleet on SNL Saturday?

There are a LOT of acts/artists out there that are hacks, but still doing well. The music industry is about money, not musical integrity.

Thoughts on Greta Van Fleet on SNL Saturday?

"When I see "share your thoughts" I imagine it being more about the music. What these threads typically degrade into is "... zeppelin wannabees (uh oh :D ), all new music sucks, there's no originality." Those sound like thoughts on the music to me. As far as this particular band goes...

    Anyone playing PDP platinums?

My point was that the two series (Performance and Platinum. I never mentioned the Design series) were so similar, that there was no point to having both, so they stuck with the newer, higher-priced, DW-branded series. They were basically competing with themselves, so they phased out the...

Thoughts on Greta Van Fleet on SNL Saturday?

I've learned over the years that typically, when someone asks for opinions, they're basically just asking to hear their opinion parroted by everyone else. And if you disagree, it's because there is obviously something wrong with you.

    Anyone playing PDP platinums?

I've only played the maple Collector's Series (though I've played many of them), so that's all I'm referring to when I say "DW sound". To me, it's a very basic, modern drum sound. They tend to be at home at a lower tuning range. Deep and punchy, but missing an element that I can't put my...

    Anyone playing PDP platinums?

I believe I heard that the Platinums have the same shell as the DW Performance series. The Platinums were discontinued so DW could put the round lugs and DW name on it, and charge more. Again, that's just what I heard.

    Anyone playing PDP platinums?

Yeah, they were 18" deep. It's crazy how many kits only came with 18" deep bass drums. I like that the shorter drums are coming back. Now, if only they'd start making 15" toms again.

    Anyone playing PDP platinums?

I used to have one like 8 years ago. 12, 14, 16, 22, 23 (only ever used one at a time). They have that DW sound, which I know some people like, but is not my cup of tea personally. And I remember them being kind of heavy. Having said that, they are very well built. And if you dig the DW...
