It's your sound. It's cool. Now REALLY cool would be trading in your fancy Yamahas for beat-up Exports ;)

Ordering cheap parts from China - a cautionary tale

True - or the rest of Asia. A pretty good start!

Ordering cheap parts from China - a cautionary tale

Not sure if geopolitics counts as politics (ie a banned topic) but the militarised artificial islands in the South China Sea largely do away with China's need for an aircraft carrier fleet...

Ordering cheap parts from China - a cautionary tale

This story deserves its own thread. I dig her cymbal choices!

Small Dent on Edge of New Hi Hats

The difference is probably negligible but that would rankle me. I have some New Beats due today and I'm hoping for better luck.

Ordering cheap parts from China - a cautionary tale

Yeah, a lot on eBay are listed as DC but they picture TF. There are DCs in there if you sift through. The quality of these is too dubious to get my recommendation. If you want 'em, you'll find 'em. There were a ton of sellers with the exact same pictures when I placed my order.

Ordering cheap parts from China - a cautionary tale

I've been ordering some bits and pieces of hardware on eBay. Sellers are often based in China. You pay less but you need to be patient with shipping. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. This week I got a couple of things: some wing bolts and some die cast snare hoops. The wing bolts...

    Ludwig NeuSonic set

I ported my bass drum and use no muffling - it sounds good like that, so this is a versatile drum.

Hi-Hats for Soul, Funk, and hip-hop (boom bap) [with occasional alt-rock thrown in]

I was going to mention 13" K/Z. I've seen a couple of pairs for sale lately and was briefly tempted. Not for me in the end as I mostly do rock, but could be good for OP.

    Muffling a 20" K Crash Ride

Gaff does also leave a residue if left on for years - I speak from experience - but after good service for that long who really cares?

    Mismatched Hardware

I've got mostly Pearl hardware and have tried to keep it that way but a couple of rogue brands have snuck in. No one will ever spot it as I've got gaffer tape over all the branding on my hardware. I don't like to advertise.

    Ludwig NeuSonic set

I own one. The 22-16-12 in white. Pros: - Plenty responsive and plenty of volume. Nice tone with the maple/cherry construction. - Lightweight. The toms are weighed down by hefty mounts but the bass drum feels light as a feather. - The two-position bass drum spurs. Some dislike, but they're...

You have to pay to talk to me

I have worked most of my career in content-based industries - journalism, publishing, conferences, etc - and I have experienced every imaginable variation on one party paying the other for their time, output or presence, in widely varying amounts, or not at all. To say "this is how it is...

You have to pay to talk to me

I am frankly staggered at the number of people here who fervently believe that if someone wants to talk to you, you are morally obliged to give up an hour of your time to talk to them. If I were asked to do something like this, I'd do it gladly and I'd enjoy it for what it is. But, equally, I...

You have to pay to talk to me

Exactly right. We get mad at people who ask musicians to play gigs for "the exposure", so why get mad at the musician for not wanting to do this job for "the exposure"?
