    Carry As Little As Possible

I’m good with a kick, snare, hats and one crash/ride. Kick gotta be a 20” though. I’ve been thinking of the ultimate travel kit That is only needs one stand: 20”kick, 14x4 snare mounted off a double braced boom stand. Remote hi hat pedal also mounted off same stand. Obviously, crash/ride is on...

DW Frequent Flyer Kit, which color to choose?

Really? I should play a 15” before I buy one. That should be drum law. I really like the 20x8 on the new Yamaha hip stage sets. Every demo I’ve heard sounds great. I’m sure 22x8 would be good too

DW Frequent Flyer Kit, which color to choose?

Honestly, the best finish for the frequent flyer was that white onyx. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to discontinue that finish? It looked so much better than any of the other offerings. I don’t really like the gloss on the burst. The flat black looks awful. White and gray look cheap...

DW Frequent Flyer Kit, which color to choose?

Fair enough. Would the frequent flyer be better? I haven’t played an Inde, but I have played the frequent flyer and it’s nothing special either. It’s not bad, but is it better than the less expensive Inde?

DW Frequent Flyer Kit, which color to choose?

Because the Catalina doesn’t have a 20” kick in a compact depth. If Gretsch made a Catalina with a 20x10 it would be great. The wayfarer also has a 15” floor tom, which is a nice, unique size. It’s also made in the USA, if it matters, and still costs less then the frequent flyer. The frequent...

DW Frequent Flyer Kit, which color to choose?

Why the frequent flyer? Have you seen the Inde Wayfarer? $999 20x10, 12x6, and 15x10 I’d go for the Inde in mahogany stain. You’re welcome

Yes. 15” 30th anniversary hats. Only hats I have at the moment.

Hi-Hats for Soul, Funk, and hip-hop (boom bap) [with occasional alt-rock thrown in]

I use them too. There are lots of options, but they most definitely fit soul and funk. I think the examples below (copyrighted and used with permission) show that. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RaVwUN6lG-6GYV1Hibqpw2ayczBd1ela/view?usp=drivesdk...

The quietest kit? What to stick in a rehearsal room.

The L80’s are pretty great for practice. They really are quiet and feel like cymbals. Your set up will be fine. You might still have issues with tapping sounds or a stomping sound with your downstairs neighbor if you have one, but you can get away with that much more easily and later into the...

The quietest kit? What to stick in a rehearsal room.

If you’re building a new construction then hopefully you’re doing it right and won’t need to do anything else. When it comes to regular cymbals and heads, they are all pretty much the same in terms of volume and what spills out of a space. Maybe Sabian FRX will cut a few db’s? I don’t think it...

The quietest kit? What to stick in a rehearsal room.

I was waiting until the OP could clarify budget and space details, but..... To reduce the volume of your drums the best bang for buck is going to be practice heads and practice cymbals. Everyone else in your band has a volume knob. I think the RTOM black hole heads sound better and feel better...

The quietest kit? What to stick in a rehearsal room.

No I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news to many of you, but muffling and drum shell material aren't really going to make an audible impact in terms of how much noise/vibration escapes the room. Sizes might, but I'd be willing to bet if neighbors hear a 22/13/16 they will hear 18/12/14 almost...

The quietest kit? What to stick in a rehearsal room.

Can you tell us more about the space? Is it in an apartment building, your home and what kind of home, or business park/stripmall? Do you have a budget?

What Brand/model of bass guitar to buy?

My bad. I didn’t read that last post. Well, if it doesn’t work out you’ve got options. Bass and drums go together like bbq and beer.

What Brand/model of bass guitar to buy?

Some of the danelectro hollow body, short scale basses sound really cool. They are usually under $500. The more expensive squire electric guitars are pretty good. I might look at their more expensive basses if you want a fender type bass. If you want to raise the budget and really go for it...

Anyone else have a shell bank? And what’s your goto kick drum?

I've considered this but I'm just a hobbyist so I won't pursue it for a long time if ever. My current set up is a 20-12-14. That covers about 90% of anything in a recording environment. I really want to add a 16 floor and a 22 kick as well as a 20x10 kick. Besides needing other snare drums, what...

Hi-Hats for Soul, Funk, and hip-hop (boom bap) [with occasional alt-rock thrown in]

Fingers crossed for you. See a doc if you can. I hear exercise and movement can potentially slow down Parkinson’s. All you really need are a kick, a snare, a hi hat and a crash/ride

Hi-Hats for Soul, Funk, and hip-hop (boom bap) [with occasional alt-rock thrown in]

That’s why I mentioned 15” for the 30th Ann. The 14 are too thin and paper like, but the 15 brings a sparkle and chick but still maintains that buttery thin sound. Not going work for everyone though. YMMV

Hi-Hats for Soul, Funk, and hip-hop (boom bap) [with occasional alt-rock thrown in]

15" agop 30th anniversary - This would be my first choice for your listed genres, but they aren't bright which is why I think they are the perfect fit for how I interpret those genres. If you're looking for something more bright/modern, see below. 14" k custom dark hats - they are truly good at...

    Worst kit you've owned

Seriously? I've been whatching these for months wondering if I should pull the trigger! Now I don't know what to do! Damn! They seem to sound good on the samples I've heard, but at the same time there always seems to be used player date 1/2 sets on reverb. I always found that odd considering...
