    Ludwig Trans badge project

Maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself will be able to chime in, but the first photo (gold sparkle) is from a pre-serial badge 12"x 16" tenor drum. The second photo is from my black trans badge kit. Both toms and the snare have this type of muffler. I'm not entirely sure when Ludwig...

Which of the two 3/4" knob mufflers are you gonna go with? Ludwig used two in the era and I'm not entirely sure why/when they choose one version over the other.

Ringo 39,500.00 1963 black oyster jazz fest 5.5x14 1 of 5 known including Ringo's, what's your honest value in todays market?

Exactly. He's holding the tape measure crooked, which would give a larger depth (in this case 5.5") than if he held it square. Notice the metal keeper end on one side isn't even contacting the shell?

Ringo 39,500.00 1963 black oyster jazz fest 5.5x14 1 of 5 known including Ringo's, what's your honest value in todays market?

For a drum in which the depth is so critically important to the value, I feel like the tape measurer should be held perpendicular to the shell. Seems like this drum may actually be closer to 5 3/8" than 5 1/2" if the tape measurer was square to the shell. Seem odd to anyone else?

It is the original finish. Everything on the drums is completely stock (even including the tom reso heads). There aren't too many jet black pearl WFL/trans badge kits floating around. Apparently it wasn't too popular of a color back in the day.

The ride cymbal is only a 22" (Sabian Vanguard to be exact). I think the angle makes it look a bit larger than it actually is. It's also a downbeat sized kit, so maybe that makes the cymbal look bigger?

I know you decided against black, but here's what Jet Black Pearl on a trans badge kit looks like:

Was Taylor Hawkins playing a Gretsch kit with Leedy lugs last night?

If Gretsch resurrected Leedy, I would buy a kit in a heartbeat. I absolutely love the Leedy lug design.

UPDATE! What are these big dark marks on my Sabian HHX's?

Weird. The reason I ask is the staining looks like it could almost be an area that was rubbed or wasn't rubbed with something. I own a lot of sabians and have never seen anything like that.

UPDATE! What are these big dark marks on my Sabian HHX's?

Do you dust off or wipe your cymbals down with anything regularly?

Up close I think it looks really cool, but from a distance it just looks like smoke yellowed black oyster pearl.

Review: My INDe Bop Kit - Not Just Hype

Giving this thread a bump, because I think Josh's drums deserve it. I can truly agree with the above comment that I've grown to love these drums more over time. I've had the chance to play these tuned high, medium, and low, and they truly excel in all tunings. They're light weight, elegant, and...

INDe Drum Lab has some sweet demo discounts posted

I have an INDe dark rosewood bop kit in 7"x12", 13"x14", and 12"x18" sizes. I've owned multiple professional level drums sets (vintage, modern, US, Japanese, etc) and can honestly say my INDe kit is my favorite. As much as I love playing drums from brands with heritage or big names backing them...

Vintage Ludwig LM402 vs 6.5" Blackrolite

Thanks for the comments guys. I really appreciate the help. I think you're right in keeping the LM402 until I can find a nice blackrolite. I'll keep this thread updated on if I can find one or not. I've always love the look of the black galaxy finish also.

Vintage Ludwig LM402 vs 6.5" Blackrolite

Thanks for all the great advice guys. I really do appreciate it. It's interesting to see that most everyone is leaning towards me selling the LM402 and trying to find a 6.5 blacro. I know it'll be tough to find a 6.5" blacro, but I also definitely don't "need" it. I have plenty of other drums to...

Vintage Ludwig LM402 vs 6.5" Blackrolite

Hey guys, I currently own a late 70s Ludwig LM402. It's a workhorse of a snare and sounds great, but recently I've been bouncing around the idea of selling it. These snares are going for an excellent price on the used market (~$700) and I don't have any real sentimental attachment to the drum...
