"Beater Kits".... do you really need one?

well, I knew a guy years ago who had quite a few vintage Ks that NEVER left his house...on the one hand I kinda get it, but then again, if your NEVER gonna play it out.... I guess it's like taking out a Mustang or Corvette to a nice park on a dry sunny day, vs a trip to Lowes or WalMart on a...

Got a China in your regular set up?

they are amazing for sure! Now I did try a 19" K China and I HATED IT!! Way to heavy and thick--I ended up trading it for something or another. I def prefer mine on the thinner side and the Holy China really fits the bill.

Playing "Don't Stop Believing" tonight for the FIRST time! Is it okay to just fudge it?

That's a GREAT point about Sunshine...I, too, was a bit letdown that SG DIDN'T stay closer to the original GB part--it makes the song imho!!

"Beater Kits".... do you really need one?

It seems most posts here are saying "no" to a beater, but I disagree--and "beater" doesn't have to mean "junky" by any means. Of course I love using all 6 of my kits, but I do tend to want to take my nicer kits to nicer gigs/venues. If we are playing an upscale winery or festival I will...

Playing "Don't Stop Believing" tonight for the FIRST time! Is it okay to just fudge it?

I never dreamed my innocent little question would lead to such an in-depth discussion of all things Music..."goes to show, you don't ever know..."

Got a China in your regular set up?

Oh, I own about 6 or 7, including an apparently now-difficult-to-find 18 A Custom Rezo Pang. For many years my go-to was a 17" K brilliant China that I bought used in '91, but I just CANNOT get either Holy China off my stands recently...

been on a Jim Gordon kick lately

JG may just be the Greatest drummer of them all that is not named Buddy Rich! I mean seriously, if you look at his ENTIRE body of work--it's almost indisputable

Why Don Henley Switched to Tama in '78-'79

Wouldn't you think a drummer with such a high profile in such a huge band would have been pursued by Ludwig to stay with the company??

Anyone here remember Drum World in Pittsburgh?

I actually go back to 1986, when they were in their OLD building about a block away--they moved into the "new" building in 1991. I still clearly remember attending a clinic by Rod Morganstein shortly after it opened (and Ritchie Hayward too iirc). I still find it hard to believe I only bought...

    Folding hand truck recommendations

I'm not sure if the brand name, (I'm stuck at work right now) but I bought a pretty heavy duty one at Lowes in probably 2006 or so and it's still going strong! It's looks like a regular dolly but you pull a cotter pin and lay it down to make a decent sized cart...I modified it with a piece of...

Anyone here remember Drum World in Pittsburgh?

Anyone here remember DW? It was actually in Castle Shannon just south of PGH...it closed around 2 years ago and I still cannot believe it's gone. My job requires me to literally drive right past it several times a day and it used to be so convenient for me to pop in real quick if I needed...

    Traditional grip

I normally play a 5-piece on gigs (and at practice) but i do have a few occasions to set up my Phil Collins-inspired 4up/2dn kit and still use my regular traditional grip on both with ease on either setup
