    Pearl 1.6mm Fat Tone Hoops

I use vintage NOB triple flange hoops on Gretsch snares, great results every time.

Nah he just throws crap on the kitchen floor because he knows it will get a reaction.

    Pearl 1.6mm Fat Tone Hoops

Glad to see this thread. There are definitely certain drums that sound their best with lighter weight hoops, so it’s good to have an idea which ones are worth trying.

    22/12/14 setups

The first “serious” kit I bought was those sizes, and I didn’t know enough about tuning at the time so I stupidly sold them. My ideal is 22/15/12, but 22/14/12 is a close second.

    Bop kits

I just the other day converted a 16 FT to a bass, and so far it’s working out pretty well! Band had one rehearsal and the bassist said “well, I can hear it.” That’s a good start for a small bass drum. Got the sound dialed in a bit better tonight. Our next few gigs are in small venues, so we’ll...

A little GEORGE WAY love... I don't consider myself a collector but these things are mutipling! SHOW YOURS!

I used to have the Elkhart. Loved the shell and lugs, HATED the strainer and butt. I was on the fence for a while about drilling to fit a different brand of strainer/butt, and I almost did it, but I ended up deciding I had a couple other similar drums and I didn't need to "spoil" (for a purist)...

    Wood hoop users ?

Generally, heavier and stiffer hoops "focus" the sound, by reducing some of the system vibration, so some harmonics come through more clearly and others get damped. While lighter and less-stiff hoops give more "fatness" or "richness", by allowing more system vibration, more of the spectrum of...

Anyone A/B compared Copperphonic with Starphonic Copper?

Thanks for that impression. As far as the hardware, I _much_ prefer the Starphonic throw and butt, and I like their lugs and wires too.

    13" floor tom/drumstick between a 2S&3S.

Until you can afford an actual custom built kit, your best bet is to look for single “orphan” drums in the sizes you want. I see 13” floor toms on ebay now and then.

Being a drummer in the Country & Western/Western Swing world

The genres where I’ve found the least adherence to steady time, or equal-length measures, are early blues and Appalachian folk. Some listeners might call those “country”, and not be entirely wrong. And I’ve heard plenty of modern singer-songwriters lean on that historical styling either...

    Gretsch stop signs

My one SSB drum has the exact same degree of head-fitting tightness as my various RB’s. The best fitting heads are the Remo Classic Fit, and the best sounding IMO are Aquarian TC Super 2 or Focus X models. I don’t like the fit or the sound of the Aquarian American Vintage models on these tubs.

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He didn’t write the English version. Of course I agree with your point that Sinatra and tons of other greats never wrote their lyrics either. :)
