Just curious what people use or think. I don’t find a lot of 15” hi hat users and probably much less use them in the jazz world.

I use 15" old A's exclusively for my acoustic jazz group.

Top - 60's New Beat, 950 g
Bottom - Late 50's BAND cymbal, 1150 g

Perfect jazz hats, imo.

over time accumulate 13s 14s 15s and use those two 16 crash/medium/ cymbals for 16s
So that over time,
You don't get bored and can switch up)
and (if done correctly) it's a small price to "pay"..
boredom and familiarity breeds cymbalholism
seek the (lowest cost possible ; cures

instead of 7 pair variety of 14s
make the bolder longer lasting step- dimension variety
(easier said than done)
Maybe.
Also. And don't sell anything along the way ; )
(can't predict when boredom strikes..

I stumbled upon a phenomenal combo in a 904 g K Dark Crash over a 1150 g Agop OM and use this for pretty much all jazz gigs.

I've been using a pair of Meinl 15" Byzances for the past few years. Love' em.

Agop Om reminds me I should revisit this shop where they had a pair. Should work well for soft jazz.
I have a pair of old Nickelsilver 15" hats that sound a bit trashy but basically work well. With 15" you often get a longer decay on the half-open sound with larger hats, nice for slow pieces. The sligtly lower pitch also works well with softer music.

Yes. Mix and match 15" Agop OM, Paiste Masters Dark, Agean Treasure Jazz Paper Thin Crash and Bosphorus Syncopation SW.

Meinl Byzance 15” Dual hats are my go to jazz hats. Play more like a 14”. Very thin and responsive.

Same for me, while I play 16's in my classic pop/rock gig, every other rig I own is based around 15's. Even my practice kit is set up with 15's so that is my go to for almost everything I play including the occasional jazz gig. For more traditional big band or swing it's a pair of 15" Mehmet Nostalgia's and for the more modern dates is a set of Agop Signatures.

13" only for me

15" hats are only 1" less than my 16" bass drum. It would look funny.

But seriously

Brian Blade...pretty sure he has used 15" for a long time

I own a set of 1960"s 15" A's in the mid 800 gram range approx 830 over 880 I believe ....they're soft and articulate... Just a hint of " chup" instead of " " chick" ...

That's a cool pic with the cigarette. I'd hang that one up in the jam space if it came in a poster.
