I posted awhile ago about 4 16" crash cymbals I found, and you told me the new crash sizes are 18-20"...Good advice by the way, so I messed around with the 16,s until I found a combo that worked well as hats....who knew, I LOVE IT. First time ever not using 14,s, and I do like the extra area for crescendos!...so you can teach an old dog new tricks!!

I love 16s. My go-to set of hats since 2011 (actually my only pair since about 2013) is a pair of Craig Lauritsen 16s.

All 4 16,s are 70,s USA Zildjy,s with very fine stamps, very hard to read. They are medium weight I,d say, but they really do make good hats. The 14,s im replacing which are Sabian AA 70,s sound ok, but also sound awful on their own as crashes. ...I think 16,s make for perfect hats

I love 16” hats, been rotating them in with 15’s for 20 years.

Way to find a good use for them!

i bought a pair or Meinl Orchestral 16s off Amazon ages ago...cheap...too heavy for crashes...went to sell them and someone asked how they were as hats...i played them over the phone and he didn't like them (too low)...I loved them.

I still like 16s for crashing too

He has some 16” crash cymbals and seeing as many prefer to use crashes in the 18-20” range he decided to mess around and find a hats combination that he liked/loved
