1959 Ludwig Transition Badge Pioneer

I have my first Ludwig Pioneer on the way. I've heard some pretty good things about these snares and am looking forward to seeing how it plays. It has a Transition badge and a black ink date stamp of Sept. 4 1959 with a '14' chalk mark (no painted interior). It has a depth of 5.5" and has the 'Large' Pioneer P85 strainer with a WFL butt plate. Original snares. Nickel over brass hardware and a nice WMP wrap. It also came with a WFL snare stand. Looking forward to cleaning it up a little and adding it to the snare collection!

Very cool. I can't recall seeing too many 50's Ludwig drums with a black ink stamp. They are almost always red.

Yup, I noticed it a few days ago! The transition badge, depth, nickel hardware, p85 strainer, WFL butt plate, date stamp, etc. It was hard to not make an offer on it!

Phew, you’re right! I was gonna give it a few more days and do the same..how does she sound?

those you have to play... they're not much to look at.....but they perform /punch way above their weight. Just seem humble to look at (altho the Pearl finish spices that one up a bit.

hear ...the one Hit I managed here in It had to be you. 6 lug 1961 duco blk/gld pioneer.
still have it. Sounds better than it appears.

Haven't gotten it yet. I just ordered it last night. Once I get it and have time to tweak it, etc. I will definitely let you know

That should be a good one. Congrats! I've had one Pioneer with that strainer. They are very neat.

Found one almost exactly the same…Although mine was born September 11th! All cleaned up and ready for sale yet somehow I just can’t seem to sell it now haha too beautiful

Nice drums. I've never been lucky enough to find one with that strainer.
Btw-Old time member, J.R.Frondelli swore by Pioneers and even went so far as to manufacture his own.

I don’t know so much about them, but gosh they’re gorgeous. It’s got a nice warm tone, good feeling to play on.
